Can't believe they did this without ANY consultation/communication with residents.

People want more young people to stay on the north side yet they are continuously getting rid of family places and things for children. Also people preach about supporting local small businesses yet people are trying to plow them down.

As a local small business Owner in the area to Archibald's Wharf, this is heart-wrenching. This will affect many different aspects of downtown North Sydney. Very sad. Fingers crossed this deal does not take effect!

To the people of the area who support the purchase of Archibald Wharf and it's "miracle job" creation (hahaha) and who have told me to move our 2 small businesses to Indian beach...take a moment to please think about the following. when you look at the numbers of 2.5 million in wages it's beautiful in theory however, council and the mayor's office has left out a lot of details. First off, they have no money to maintain Archibald Wharf but yet will spend money to develop indian beach? The beach development plans are projected over a 5 year term. Secondly, moving a business is not that easy...though I wish it was right now. The cost of moving one small business is minimal a $10,000 dent, plus additional costs. For most of the people downtown, they own the buildings they run their businesses out of. Moving to Indian beach raises a whole lot of questions. First off insurance of having a year around small business within 30 meters of a major body of water. Developing that area to accommodate small business realistically depends on a lot more then just money... Plus there isn't the space, utilities, or layout to develop what people will need. Also, let's take a look at every time CBRM sold property for business development... someone please enlighten me to all these wonderful jobs?!? Cause so far every single one as failed and at the expense of tax payers. Plus all the pressure Marine Atlantic has endured to expand to an accessible downtown has cost them millions of dollars....to direct people to Scrap metal yard? This list could go on forever. There are far too many unanswered questions, basically no details, and I would love to see these job descriptions, qualifications, and time frame for these positions to be put into place. You know like the 120 jobs at the Pharmaceutical Plant that never even opened it's doors. There's too much in the dark which should make everyone worry..

You would never see this happen on the Sydney side of the harbour. The sale would be more upgrade money for the recreation areas on the Sydney side where everything else goes.

I think it's a shame to loose such a lovely spot where everyone loves to go to enjoy a nice meal or a walk on the boardwalk.

Is this FAIR???...Two established businesses are located at Archibald's Wharf that employ local people and provide much needed food services to the area as well as the tourists that are going to be cast aside for a company from outside the area that has only recently setup shop. Yes, the area needs jobs but not at the expense of other businesses, there is several areas of land along the waterfront that could be utilized. Marine Atlantic are opening up the new terminal on to Commercial Street. The additional tourist traffic in town could result in more businesses opening up downtown creating more jobs/spinoffs. The CBRM needs to look at the BIGGER PICTURE to see what is being sacrificed for a maybe...how many outside businesses have disappeared with little warning!
There are alot of families that love to play and walk at the Wharf,it will be definetly missed by so many.Just what we want to look at a shipyard, and of the 50-100 jobs that might come with this shipyard, will we the people of Cape Breton get any,or will the people be brought in from Dartmouth where this company is from??Also out of all these jobs is there going to be any for the average Joe or will everyone need degrees that most dont have here??

As a local business owner to this area, the thought of this is heart-wrenching. So many efforts have been and are still trying to be made to bring more business to the Northside. However, taking Archibald's Wharf and using it for Industrial purposes is wrong in many aspects. This will dramatically affect us!
