Petition to Retain the Southampton/Alderney Air Link

5 hours travelling from uk ( including train from midlands) door to Alderney door via Southampton direct makes frequent short visits possible. To add another link, especially with dog or grandchildren will make the journey so much more difficult therefore infrequent. The shops and services of Alderney can't survive without customers. Then what.

As somebody who grew up on the island, I knew the theoretical importance of the Southampton air route. Some medical flights went directly to Southampton if where Guernsey couldn’t deal with them. Some people worked a day a week in the mainland to earn enough to live in Alderney. For others it is a business lifeline, opening up tourism or allowing important meetings to take place. For others it is the best route for family to visit- an emotional lifeline. As somebody hoping to move back in the next few months, I can tell you just how important it is to keep this open. In order to support ourselves moving back both myself and my partner are likely to require the route in order to work in the mainland occasionally. Without this route (or another Alderney- south coast direct route) flights will become more expensive and take longer, meaning this side of our income will be unsustainable. Removing the route will quash businesses both new (like ours) and old, and result in a decline in the people that live in alderney. Those people forced out will doubtless be the young - the backbone of any society- and instead leave the few who can afford to retire.

Route is vital - I use all the time to visit family/friends - much needed for hospital appointments for many - KEEP SOUTHAMPTON ROUTE

Alderney-Southampton must not be axed under any circumstances. It is most definitely a lifeline route for the permanent residents of Alderney. Please keep it alive for the good of the whole community. Don’t let our island die.

We have to keep this vital air route otherwise we might as well shut up shop.

This is a small but very important route please keep running.

My elderly grandfather lives on the island and has had a home there since 1981, this route provides the best way to enable many of his family members to visit him swiftly.

I don’t believe Alderney can survive without this air link. The population is decreasing and the economy depends upon tourism. It should t even be a consideration to cut the airlinlk
