Petition to Retain the Southampton/Alderney Air Link

I own a home on Alderney and also live in USA and UK. Personally I have introduced this island to over 50 visitors who never heard of the Channel islands let alone Alderney. It would become impossible for me to bring guests and to get to my property without this Southampton air link. If this becomes a reality the island will shrink and die without tourism and a thriving economy.

Would make our 3 visits a year almost impossible.

It would be a crying shame to lose the direct link from Southampton to Alderney.

I cannot believe that Guernsey/Aurigny do not realise how important this lifeline route is to Alderney - surely if Alderney prospers, then Guernsey benefits too. Without a decent service - we all lose out!

The direct link to the mainland is of absolute necessity to ensure that the island maintains its economy - without it I fear that this will have an everlasting detrimental effect on island life. The result would be devastating to local residents who rely on the tourist trade for livelihood.

I've been visiting Alderney for over 40 years and hope to do so for the rest of my life. The island is a core part of the Bailiwick and the lifeline route is a reflection of this. To remove it would curtail tourism and business and the net outcome would surely be to the detriment of Guernsey, let alone to Alderney and its residents.

This direct link is vital for those of us who visit the island for a holiday (as we do every year) and have limited time and capacity to travel a convoluted route. We have two small children and hope to be able to continue to bring them each year, but we will have to reconsider this if there is no longer a direct route from Southampton. Please do not abandon this long standing route, one I have taken almost every year for the last 35.

The Southampton route has provided the Alderney life line for 50 odd years and is a vital link for islanders, frequent visitors, holidaymakers and business folk. It must remain. If there is truth in the 'loss making' suggestion, why does Aurigny management not share that information with those of us who spend our money on their tickets? We may not be shareholders but we are customers and stakeholders and therefore deserve to be told the truth.

Aurigny's Southampton-Alderney service is an essential link which makes it possible for us to travel to Alderney from Canada without a stop-over en route.

we visit alderney regularly, our spiritual home since the 1950s. we often bring friends, too. flying by any other route would be hugely inconvenient and off-putting. we come to southampton by the very convenient (and green!) train. the route is vastly important to alderney, for islanders and visitors alike. we urge you to keep it.

For the 39 years I've been visiting Alderney, this route has been a reliable and fast way to reach Alderney from the mainland. Please do not throw it away.

I use this Alderney -Southampton route several times in the year, and have family and friends regulary travelling across to our island from Southampton too. Removing this link would be disasterous to the Island, and will be killing off businesses and tourism. These are the most, if not the only, income to the Island! I would love to see the prove of these losses caused by this route!!

The Southampton route is the best possible route for arriving and leaving Alderney with the train station a stones throw away allowing easy access to all regions of the UK without the trial of passing through two separate airports with all the delays and aggrevation that involves

My son travel to Southampton to school in uk directly and he is only 13 years old. We do need Southampton route.

This is THE route from the UK to Alderney. The notion that this is a loss-maker having been the cornerstone of the UK link for 50 odd years is ludicrous. A better solution would be to look at why "now" all of a sudden is it not workable/profitable... Dorniers perhaps ???

The route is a lifeline for those on Alderney and those who visit from the mainland. The impact on both, but more importantly the islanders would be harsh.

HIghly questionable figures from Guernsey suggest losses but no evidence offered yet still this route is threatened. As a regular user of this service the option of wasting time in a Guernsey airport transfer each trip will not happen and both islands lose out. I am sure I am not alone.

The Alderney Southampton direct air link is absolutely vital to the island. Tourism and businesses will suffer massively. For all dog/pet owners it would be a travesty. Alderney relies and needs this direct route and that is why Aurigny started up in the first place

To say the Alderney routes lose millions of pounds a year is ludicrous,before Guernsey got it's hands on Aurigny this was a profit making link. The problem occurred with the change from tri-landers to not fit for purpose dorniers.When will our illustrious states members start sticking up for the people of this island and stop kowtowing to Guernsey?
