The paramount question raised by this issue which paper best reaches the most residents of Custer County. Circulation statistics give a large edge to the Wet Mountain Tribune. Thus, despite other considerations the Tribune should have been awarded the legals contract by the commissioners.

Cronyism at its best.

Such a blatant, transparently political move to grease the palms of the county's right wing extremists is JUST PLAIN WRONG! Not to mention the fact that the Sentinel is merely a rant masquerading as a “news” paper. I have never read a publication that spews so much hatred while hypocritically promoting its so-called Christianity. The action of the County Commissioners inverts the traditionalism that the conservative party espouses, and, as the petition describes, excludes most county citizens. This is unacceptable behavior from our elected officials. Aren’t the Commissioners supposed to do what is best for their citizens? How is excluding citizens in our best interests? I think they should be fired!

The issue should not be one of politics but rather which publication can best serve the community and the legal process.

The tribune reaches more property owners/tax payers as well as more residents ... thus it is the logical choice for such notices.

The rationale for this petition is laid out perfectly. The question the county board should have asked and debated is "which organization can better serve the public as the carrier of this information?" The answer should have been obvious.

More citizens will see the Legal Descriptions in the Tribune due to the number of subscribers. Let's do what will best serve the community.

Both papers should have a right to post the information. This is not a political matter and should be presented as news to all papers interested in posting.

Tradition, readers, should beat out a private bias, one way publications.

Award the legal notices to the Tribune which has three times the number of subscriptions and a paid staff of local writers who write twice the number of local news stories.

The Sentinel is not representative of our entire community.

I won't ever read the Sentinel and won't see Legal descriptions.

This decision smacks of favoritism.

Give the Tribune back what they have earned, give the community back what they have subscribed to. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE THAT OTHER 'NEWS' PAPER.

Keep the Trib...forget the rest

BOCC action makes no sense....reverse it.

I am uncomfortable with the abusive language and name calling that the Sentinel routinely uses. It is a religious and political publication that serves a narrow niche in the community. Our community business should be in the more general and more professional community newspaper, the Tribune.

By circulation numbers alone, this newspaper should be the paper of record. This is a huge injustice to those of us who need to keep up with what is going on in the valley.

BOCC action devoid of common sense and certainly not in the public interest.

The Tribune is the community newspaper. Use it. Don't use a start up that will be gone in a year. This must be a money saving strategy, but is not a good idea.
