The commissioners are charged with the fiscal responsibility of obtaining the "best deal" possible when spending our money. Unless the awarded tabloid reduced the price of printing the legals by 66% the commisioner have chosen to buy "the least" for the most money. Politics not withstanding, they are misappropriating our funds openly choosing to reduce the exposure of the contents of government activity to their constituents.

There is no comparison in the subscription numbers between these papers; you are choosing to leave most of the community uninformed. shame on you!

either keep it in the Wet Mountain Tribune, the paper with the greatest distribution, or run it in both!

Totally agree. I will never purchase the Sentinel. I resent my tax dollars going to such a decisive entity. And it is a financial hardship for those that cannot afford both papers. Those taxpayers will be disenfranchised.

I have yet to hear/read a coherent rationale for this move by the commissioners. They need to reconsider and reverse their decision.

After reading Bill Gillette's comments I find that I agree with what he has stated so clearly.

Dear Commissioner Shy: I am writing to ask you to reconsider your decision to award the legals contract to the Sentinel. The question at issue here is simple. Which paper reaches the most people in Custer County as the reason for publishing's the legal notices is to insure the opportunity for the public to be informed of actions which may have an effect on a person or a group of people in Custer County. With a circulation of more than twice or three times the Sentinel's circulation the question of awarding legals is thus answered. I would hope the commissioners would reconsider their action. Sincerely, Bill Gillette

To pull legal descriptions from the paper with the largest circulation and longest publishing history is clearly against the public interest. This decision is transparently political and unethical.
If I had to post a legal notice, I would not choose to put it in the Sentinel, because no one would see it. I'd have a lawyer put it in the state website instead.

In the best interest of the county, the Tribune should remain the newspaper.

It is your responsibility to inform the public, not just one sector of the local population.

Our Commissioners need to make decisions that best support our entire community not just a few. They also need to understand how to assess the implications of the decisions they make

Tribune should have remained as the official newspaper for legals for Custer County.

This was a poor decision by BOCC. I will never subscribe to the Sentinel because their viewpoints are ignorant and insulting. Therefore, I, among others, will not have the ability to be informed about matters of county government.

Why do you want to mess with history and a good thing. Shouldn't these notices be in the paper people read?
