This is a tradition that is looked forward to by players, coaches, cheerleaders, dance team members, band members, alumni, parents, town leaders, teachers, faculty, youth organizations, and the town in general. Not too mention the fundraising opportunity that is lost by losing a big game. Let ALL 17 schools play on Thanksgiving, not just the 2 that will bring the most money to the league...

Thanksgiving games just bring more than 1,000 student athletes together--they bring families and entire communities together, too

Though Ellington is not part of the FCIAC, could not imagine not playing football on Thanksgiving. Let all the kids play!

I grew up in Massachusetts. One of the very few football games I remember, was the annual Thanksgiving Day game. The entire student body, alums, and families looked forward to that rival game. And we didn't have a cross town rival - it was just another school in a different town. The Thanksgiving Game means even more to our town because its high school kids playing against kids they grew up with, kids they had sleep overs with, kids they celebrated birthdays with, and played on summer travel teams with. Some of my son's (Warde '15) closest childhood friends are on the FLHS Football team. He looked forward to playing that game his entire 4 years in high school. We even changed our entire families' Thanksgiving day tradition, his senior year, just to make sure we were home for the BIG GAME. This should be about the players and the community - not about rules and some perceived importance to a governing body. Come on - do what's right for the kids!

This day has been a special part of Thanksgiving for the Ward and the WARDE family for many years ....... please don't cancel it.

I have lived in Fairfield for 49 years and there has always been a Warde vs Ludlowe game on Thanksgiving (except when they were one school). It is a tradition that should not be taken away because of sport politics.

i believe that in the scheme of life, enjoying the Traditional Thanksgiving close to home football games is more important that crowning an FCIAC champ on that day. High school sports and this game in particular allow more of our youth to participate and bring communities together. Start the season earlier if you need to have a championship game. Change some rules. Be creative.

With so many traditions fading away please consider the sense of community that this game brings to us each year. It has value beyond just the game.
