This petition is in response to the FCIAC Board of Directors' unilateral decision to eliminate Thanksgiving football rivalry games in order to schedule the FCIAC championship game on the holiday. This move benefits only the two schools that qualify for the Championship Game and deprives more than 1,000 student athletes across 15 schools of the thrill of playing in their Thanksgiving rivalry game. In addition, our communities would lose a cherished tradition that brings together families and alumni on Thanksgiving morning.

We, the undersigned, urge the FCIAC Board of Directors to act now to restore the Thanksgiving rivalry football games and eliminate the FCIAC Championship game in order to allow all athletes to play football in the most anticipated game of the season.

im still getting messages from alumni talking about how much these games meant to them growing up. the board thinks this is just about scheduling but they are ignoring the tradition we all grew up with.

im honestly blown away by how many people are backing this cause. it feels like everyone misses these games just as much as i do and this energy is exactly what we need to show the board that tradition matters.

I am a freshman football player for staples and it would be not right for me not to play in these games. I look up to play these games and I hope I can keep on looking up to it.

2005 Fairfield warde Hugh school alum. This event is a tradition. Every student that graduates Fairfield public high school looks forward to this event to see friends, family, former coaches and faculty. This event brings together a town if but for a few hours in a friendly rivalry.

This is a tradition that has occurred since I was in high school over 25 years ago and not only does it being rival schools together, it also gives alumni that are home for the holidays the opportunity to watch the game and connect with coaches and players. Don't take it away for convenience of a schedule and a few extra bucks!

My dad is from the class of 83 Andrew Warde High School. We all live here in Florida and our High Schools don't have a game on Thanksgiving. I think that tradition should continue. That's what Thanksgiving is all about, football and turkey. Keep that tradition going.

My child, who doesn't play football but is in the band, happily dedicates his Thanksgiving to playing music at this game because it is a meaningful tradition to the town! Please restore it.

Keep the games. Crazy, disconnected, unilateral decision.

I have played in that game for four years during high school and it was one of the best years and with great friends I would hate to not get together with all the guys before a Thanksgiving feast.
