I do not feel safe in Stellenbosch anymore, before the attempted hi-jacking even. I have had two bicycles that were locked up inside the Engineering building stolen during working hours where the cameras that were put up were not even working. I have had my car broken into inside my block of flats which has a big wall around it and my flat was dead centre in town. Now when I walk home at night after studying, I constanly fear someoneis going to jump from around a corner and rob me of my valueables. This problem has to stop right now and I honestly feel worried for the female students of Stellenbosch that perhaps can not fight back against a male attacker.

Glad to sign thia petition, getting out of hand! Don't need bullshit stats about how great the Sbos is, the puplic feeling does not resemble the stats the institution give as! Not a mutual feeling at all

My dogter is 'n student in Stellenbosch en moet ook in die aande gaan eksamen skryf en dit raak baie onveilig vir damesstudente wat privaat bly en alleen moet stap

It is disgusting that such a lovely town can become so unsafe. A lot of students do not have cars and tests take place at night, so they have no choice but to walk. Stellenbosch university needs to up their game and get better campus security! People are coming all the way, paying all that money, just so that they can study at the prestigious Stellenbosch University - give them safety at least!

Police are too busy putting up booms at parking lots to stop criminals abducting female students and stealing bicycles.

I (and other residents of Stellenbosch) want to have the freedom to walk safely on the green route, regardless of what the time may be. It is impossible to organise for someone to walk with me every time - inevitably I will be walking home in the dark after working late, and that should not be a dangerous activity.

I've been a student for 7 years now, Is it just me or do I note that there's a HIGH FLUX of drifters and "bergies" on campus, the streets and in the parks where students run?? After 17:00 drifters scourge Campus pretending to check rubbish bins and pick up cigarettes but many of them carry backpacks with boltcutters and check if bikes are locked and if anything is forgotten by students. It is ridiculous!! Campus belongs to the people of the University, guests should be regulated at gates that are monitored by CCTV and have guards that can shut it in case of accident. A poll should be opened to list crime activities on Campus, we will be shocked! Summary: Lighten up campus and secure the entry points with gates and CCTV!

I am a women. I do not feel safe on campus. This is not fair and the University needs to change that.

Veiligheid is 'n noodsaaklikheid op ons kampus en misdaad wat ons reg tot veiligheid bedreig kan nie geduld word nie.

This university is getting useless. Get your shit straight and start investing more money into safety and less on bloody pointless luxuries and physical upgrades. Where do your priorities lie? Seems like you just care about your own image. Reminds me a bit of our current state of government.. Useless!

I have to go and print stuff late in the evenings and I don't want to take a friend with me the whole time. Stellenbosch is such a beautiful town...how am I suppose to enjoy it if I have to be locked up in my flat the whole time? I want to be able to walk to my friend in res without having to drive everywhere.

I feel unsafe in a town that we are suppose to call home and be protected. The university seems to be doing nothing about it! There isn't even any security around the neelsie or SS in the late hours of the night when most students are studying. Something needs to be done.

Stellenbosch is such a beautiful town and we study on one of the most exquisite views. I want to be using my eyes to take in the incredible scenery; not to constantly be looking over my shoulder. I don't want to be scared in one of the most breathtaking places, and during one of the most exciting chapters of my life. It's time we made Stellies ours again.
