While I was a student at Stellenbosch (2007-2012), I was the victim of assault (two separate incidents), mugging and theft. All of this happened after dark on the "groen roete". Just putting up cameras and calling it safe does not make it safe. More patrols with armed officers are needed. The police is so concerned with arresting students for minor drug related offences, but nothing is done to prevent more serious crimes. I believe the manpower is there; the priorities are just very, very wrong.

I hate the fact that I have to fear for my siblings and friends that constantly walk around town. Been living here for the past 15 years and I am quite sure that crime has increased a lot in the past few years. This cannot go on like this.

Unacceptable levels of crime have negated the value of going to this university which we chose for ease of student transit and safety

I should feel safe when I'm walking from Fharga or a test at night back to my res. I don't feel safe and it's supposedly called a "green route". I don't see security guards anywhere.

I always jog back to school after playing squash at the old mutual squash courts, however on Thursday when I wanted to jog back everyone was worried saying that I'll get attacked. I ran anyways and got back to Rhenish safely but I was constantly looking over my back and couldn't relax.

As a parent who has a child at Maties we need to see some action from the University Management. Lets not wait before something else happens.

More can be done to prevent crime on campus. The secuirty officers should be more willing to defend and protect, seeing as that is their job. Else it defeats the purpose of being called a "security" officer. We as students should also learn to help one another and take something like this more seriously, seeing that there's only 118 signatures thus far. . .
