Anti smoking measures are being taken around the World. Health warnings & higher taxes are the tools to reduce the harm caused by tobacco, through discouraging & deterring people to smoke & helping smokers to cut down & quit. If you smoke while you are pregnant;your baby could be born too early, have a birth defect, or die from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Even being around cigarette smoke (SHM) can cause several health problems for children. I strongly support the cause as it is reported 78% of current smokers noticed health warnings on cigarette packs & 30% thought about quitting bcz of warning label. This is one of the cost effective interventions to de normalize tobacco products and reducing the influence of tobacco industry.

Smoking is the leading predisposing factor to atherosclerotic diseases like stroke. coronary artery disease and carotid stenosis and several malignancies. There is a dangerously increasing trend of smoking in our youth which can predict a massive surge in the burden of diseases caused by smoking in future. This is a challenge for our society to tackle this major havoc to health of our young generation and this can only be done with proper planning and awareness of communities in the right direction. Raising Graphical Health Warning is certainly one of the most cost effective way to let people know, whether they be literate or illiterate about the hazards of smoking.

The youth today is born in an era that is digital till its core, they learn everything by seeing. Being a dentist I eat young people on daily basis and counsel them to quit smoking. Yet still the rate of mouth ulcers and gingivitis is at high, and honestly no one but another smoker can stand with bad breath that comes from a chain smoker.But they need to be reminded of this with each cigarette they smoke. I am a consistent volunteer for this cause and fully support it.

Cigarettes contain about 600 ingredients. When they burn, they generate more than 7,000 chemicals, Many of those chemicals are poisonous and at least 69 of them can cause cancer. Many of the same ingredients are found in cigars and in tobacco used in pipes and hookahs. cigars have a higher level of carcinogens, toxins, and tar than cigarettes. Stay safe and support drug-free environment.

Certainly it is a great initiative for behavioral change intervention. An exposure to a horrific picture every-time a smoker will hold a cigarette pack to smoke will build pressures.
