Just as Stafford College opn an art shop for students and the community, plus an exhibition space! Surely we could do the same?

I understand the need to cut costs, however in order to attract students to Staffs we must have resources and facilities for them and staff. There is also great potential to improve access to the shop to local residents and visitors. The shop staff provide excellent service and try to supply unusual products e.g. camera film which is almost impossible to get elsewhere.

The art shop is an integral part of our learning and to loose it would would be a great blow to all concerned.

I would support non-closure of the Art Shop to help improve the learning experience of art/design students, but also so that Staffs Uni continues to visibly support Art and Design creativity within the local and wider community.

So short sighted of the management team - when will they realise that in order to attract students to this university they need to maintain these type of student resources. Otherwise students will just choose somewhere else to go and take their money with them.

I would like to express my concern about the proposed closure of the Art shop. I am a lecturer in the Forensic and Crime Science department, and we use materials from the art shop for a number of lectures, practicals, short courses and research projects. I just wanted to highlight the fact that the art shop is not only used by art students, so the impact of closure would be widespread. I hope that this proposal is reconsidered as it would be a siginificant loss to the University, both to the students and staff alike.

The art shop is a vital resource not just for the faculty, but across many other areas of the University. The fact that you can actually see and feel the types of paper available, or see just the right colour of paint you need is a wonderful, fantastic resource for students and staff. You cannot order that added value and expertise 'on line'. The art shop is a superb selling point for our art and design courses. You don't have to travel to Hanley to buy materials; you don't have to wait until the post arrives to receive your order. It's on the doorstep. The staff have fantastic knowledge and provide a superb service. Please don't let our students down by removing this vital resource.
