I couldn't have got through my service pattern design course or even the level zero course if it wasn't for this shop. We used to have to make several trips per day to buy essentials for the day. We would have had to spend more time away from university to buy our supplies meaning we couldn't make the most out of our time learning on site or in the studio. To close the shop would be rediculous and the students wouldn't be able to use their precious time in the best possible way. Since graduating I still use the shop as often as possible because the friendly staff make it so much easier to get the help and advice you need. Their are no specialist shops which have the wide range of products. Therefore students struggling to live with such a small income would need to travel further to find essentials which will probably result in them getting fed up very quickly.

As an alumni I know how valuable an on-site art shop was to me. It seems unjust that current & future students won't be able able to benefit from the art shop.

being an ex student I know how much the art shop was important to get materials we can't just order a book when an idea comes into our head for work we handmade work

I'm a past student that did not study an art related degree and even I found the art shop really useful when I decided to do more creative pieces for parts of my degree. So for students studying the vast range of art related courses this is an appalling decision to make. Taking away a hub of materials and resources and making students take time out of their studying to go and buy materials. A lot of other univeristies out there have their own art shops including Nottingham Trent. The university should be encouraging people to come and study in Stoke, not push them away to better equipped universities.

This art shop was the life blood of my time at uni. I don't know what I would have done without the wonderful staff working in there and the resources that were to hand when I needed them. It is such a shame that as soon as budgets start to become a little tight, students stop being listened to and valuable sections of the university disappear.
