I support the Sarasota Orchestra, but not at the expense of the open community area that was gifted for this very purpose.

Please honor the 1925 deed restrictions and preserve the special nature and much needed green space of Payne Park. The Orchestra is a treasure as well, and needs a home of it's own, but the proposed location is unnecessary. The historic Rosemary District and other north Sarasota neighborhoods would seem to be a much better choice. The downtown citizens of this magnificent city don't need another popular venue that will only complicate parking and traffic, especially in season, while it robs public access to much needed and diminishing green space. Please....think long and hard . Thanks so much!

Shame on the orchestra for wanting to put a cement building in a beautiful park, destroying green lands, lakes, and animal habitat. If the orchestra and their cronies go through with this, I will hope that your entire orchestra crumbles. Shame on you. Be happy and stay where you are. Greedy, selfish, heartless, clueless humans again are trying to destroy our green areas. If you don’t like it .... move to New York where it’s mostly cement and selfish like-minded people who don’t care about green areas, animals or the environment. This entire situation makes me sick. Sarasota is getting ruined by a bunch of selfish, ignorant, bought $$$ off fools.

Paving over our precious greenspace in Payne Park would be an awful and irreversible decision. As specified by its donor and enjoyed by countless city dwellers, the park is for outdoor play, not for an indoor audience experience. Whether it is bird watching, jogging the trails or playing tennis, we are actively using the space while outdoors. Parks are a vital park of any city's life. Think New York. Think Paris. Sarasota, the cultural jewel of Florida, has surprisingly few beautiful parks. But we do have a few, and Payne Park is one of them. We surely can not possibly be thinking of diminishing its beauty and the outdoor life that flourishes there every day. Surely, we can not.

Calvin & Martha Payne gifted this parcel of land in perpetuity as a park for green space. Webster's Dictionary definition of perpetuity is: existence forever. Seems self evident that a concert hall should not be built at Payne Park. This would be a violation of the giftors original intent. Perhaps a better home for the Sarasota Orchestra would be the proposed magnificent new bay front area.

The park can be enjoyed by all people for whatever purposes right now, but a parking lot and oper hall cater to one group and are unused most of the time. Build over the parking lot in the van weisel and put a garage there if you want an opera hall so bad.

I support Sarasota Orchestra's efforts in moving to a more downtown location so the Bayfront might have the land. What I do not support is the possibility of using Payne Park for the new concert hall. In attending meetings regarding open space land being considered for development, the public has come out in droves to speak against messing with open spaces. It would seem to me that some of the properties that are unused or not appropriate for the area downtown might be used for a state of the art concert hall that might be used by other arts groups as well, and yet be located in the downtown area.

I’ve already ruined 90% of Sarasota let’s leave this park in tact. Besides I’m sure your quarter million condos across the street will enjoy having a park so close

I urge the City of Sarasota to keep the intended use of Payne Park, as was originally desired by the Paynes.

A transparent community process is key here. Any chance the orchestra would consider South Sarasota (e.g. the Sarasota Square Mall)??

Furious that this would even be considered! So many locations to choose from... Leave the park alone!!!
