Whereas:
- David Bowie -- the iconic and innovative British singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, painter, and actor known to many as "Starman," whose indelible influence and constant reinvention will outlast generations-- passed from Planet Earth on January 10, 2016;
- Researchers at the California Institute of Technology announced on January 20 of this year they had found evidence in the outer solar system of an object that could be a real ninth planet;
- This object currently is known only by its nickname, Planet Nine;
- There have only been two true planets discovered since ancient times, and this would be a third;
and
- All those people who are mad that Pluto is no longer a planet can be thrilled to know that we can make the solar system whole with nine planets once again.
Therefore:
- We, the undersigned, urge and petition the International Astronomical Union - the only body allowed to officially name heavenly objects - to recognize and designate this new object "David Bowie."

It's too much of a coincidence that this disturbance has fairly recently been found. Meanwhile, if there is a soul, David Bowie's would be more appreciative than anyone to be iconified and immortalized by a celestial body.

David Bowie was a globally recognized figure. The kind of artist that comes around every 10 thousand years or so. I can't think of a more fitting name for this new stellar body.
