Whereas:

• David Bowie -- the iconic and innovative British singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, painter, and actor known to many as "Starman," whose indelible influence and constant reinvention will outlast generations-- passed from Planet Earth on January 10, 2016;
• Researchers at the California Institute of Technology announced on January 20 of this year they had found evidence in the outer solar system of an object that could be a real ninth planet;
• This object currently is known only by its nickname, Planet Nine;
• There have only been two true planets discovered since ancient times, and this would be a third;

and

• All those people who are mad that Pluto is no longer a planet can be thrilled to know that we can make the solar system whole with nine planets once again.

Therefore:

• We, the undersigned, urge and petition the International Astronomical Union - the only body allowed to officially name heavenly objects - to recognize and designate this new object "David Bowie."
