It's a shame they are closing down the boards. The ability to comment and respond and interact with other viewers is something unique to IMDb. I think this could be an asset, rather than something to be taken down.

I've enjoyed the IMDb message boards for 15 years. It's the best place I know to go for help with asking questions about movies and shows. Please reconsider!!

I can't say I won't use IMDB at all without the message boards, but I'll certainly spend a lot less time there.

IMDB messageboards is the best thing out there for discussing topics. They have always been there when I'm in need of a bit of clarification, or just want to see a good film discussion.

Exactly. Social media is no replacement at all. Very superficial to say that looking at social media can replace all the thoughtful comments about a movie that are easily accessible on its message board. Especially, as you say, for anything that's not a movie out in the cinemas right now.

I find your decision to do away with the message boards short-sighted and excessively punitive. I've been exchanging ideas with people on these boards for twelve years. During that time, I've made virtual friends, enjoyed spirited debates and exchanged fascinating, as well as practical, ideas. Has there been a shift in the past couple years to people who seem to expect a fansite? Perhaps, but those issues seem easily remedied by using the ignore feature. I've been on other boards that employed volunteer moderators, who made certain to keep the discourse civil. Taking such a Draconian step seems far too harsh. I urge you to reconsider.

I guess I've been using the boards at IMDB for 10 years or something. They're the main place I go to understand a movie better and see what other people thought of it. I also look at some of the other information on the site about the firm, but I always go on the discussion thread to see what people are saying about it and clear up points about the movie that I wasn't sure about. It's a shame if they are shut down, and especially if all those years of posts are no longer available to read. Very disappointing decision and I hope there is a rethink.

I have been using the message boards for years. It's irreplaceable . This is a library of movie history, opinions and answers to questions that people have when seeing or choosing a movie. Most importantly people are discussing and learning. Don't take this resource away from us! It is an enduring example of how movies influence society and when discussed/debated even argued about inspire creativity in future movie goers and makers!

Whilst people may use social media to discuss current movies/tv, what about when watching older productions? I often check the message boards for answers to questions that I may have. Really disappointed this is being discontinued.
