Despite the trolls, I find the IMDb messageboards to be a useful and informative tool. Been a member for over 10 years now. DON'T GET RID OF US.

Although I don't write on the boards a lot, I often peruse them and do sometimes engage with other users on them. I agree that taking away the boards would be a very bad decision by IMDB.

The solution is simple: appoint power users with a long history of posting as moderators with the ability to delete posts that violate a code of conduct.

I like the user reports of movies very much next to the critics. They give another perspective to the movie seeing it from adifferent and often mor direct viewpoint. I would miss it dearly.

To be honest I don't write in the message boards myself, but pretty much the first place I go to when checking out a movie or series, actor, actress. I'll probably stop using this now, Iv no interest in coming here then going somewhere else to read someone's post and more importantly reading people's replys.

Like many other people, I turn to the boards after viewing a movie. It's the first thing I do when the credits start to roll. It's a natural thing to want to discuss the ins and outs of a movie you've just seen and to maybe get answers to questions that have bugged you throughout your viewing experience. I love reading about people's different ideas and opinions.
IMDb's decision to totally scrap the boards is a lazy way of dealing with the trolls by not dealing with them at all. There must be many ways to filter out the people that just want to upset and offend but IMDB would rather just flip the switch than fight for something that means so much to so many people.
