This is a very bad decision. The IMDb boards and the archived discussions there (stretching back a decade+) are incredibly valuable to users and also an important resource for researchers.
Social media does NOT replace this service to users. Please reconsider. At the very least, IMDb should publicly preserve/archive ALL its message boards, not delete them.

I love the message boards. They allow me to examine and learn in-depth film with various people in ways that Facebook & Twitter can't replicate. I also enjoy asking about a particular scene, soundtrack help etc..
Yes the trolls were too much, but tough moderators could've solved that issue. Shutting down the boards for good is a bit much.
Mr. Needham, please rethink this.

Please keep the message boards going. Although I do not post on them, I do go onto them and read and seek out the thoughts and opinions of others - many times a week. I use imdb primarily for the message boards. As a disabled person I don't get out and about much and I have no real friends where I live. The message boards allow me some sanity and help to make me feel like I am interacting (even by just reading) with like minded people. I don't use social media so I won't be seeking imdb out on those channels. As much as I have enjoyed the site, I won't have much need for imdb post message boards.

The board is so necessary, not all of us use twitter and all that. The board helps us find things out, have questions answered etc... if people have issues with any of its content that's on them and they can just stop reading it. Don't punish us all for the bad ones

There's no other decent place to chat about actors and movies, If anything, you should have an age limit on the boards. I think it's the little kids starting all the trouble.

IMDb, why not just shutdown the general boards, like politics and religion where the hostile discussions take place? Since this is a movie site there is no sense in shutting down discussions about actual movies and shows. The discussion boards have really been useful for getting insight and perspective on certain films and TV shows. If I have questions about things or didn't understand something I would come here. I urge you to reconsider a complete shutdown.

there's so much good information on these message boards. I often learn things from other posters who saw something I didn't in a film, and it helps expand my knowledge. please don't remove the message boards. we need them, and we use them.

I really wish you would reconsider -- removing the message boards takes away the very reason I visit IMBD almost daily. Although I have never once posted anything, I frequently read them after watching a movie or TV show. I know that on the boards I will not only most likely have my questions answered, but I will come away with a better appreciation after reading the discussions & opinions of the various people who do post. I can find cast & crew lists and even trivia for most TV shows and movies elsewhere, but what kept me coming back to IMDB was the message boards, and without them there is little reason to visit IMDB at all.

This is a very wrongheaded decision. Please reconsider such a drastic move. I will never go back to IMDB is the boards are removed.
