Without this, imdb is just a library. Not sure that's the way to go in the 21st century!

The message boards contains very, very rich material, for instance, users' recommendations of similar movies or recommendations on how to start explore director's or actor's creative work.

The message boards are why I come to IMDb. Once they go I have no need to view it.

Freedom of speech! I go to your site to look up a movie then it's actors then finish in the boards reading and reviewing! Shame on you'll!!! Don't do it!!!!

Greed, ignorance , incompetence and/or disdain lead to this revolting situation. It's a cultural crime, a waste, a shame.

The incredibly detailed analysis of film, ranging from something as simple and frustrating as trying to identify a particular song or tune heard in a movie, to more complex issues such as military insignia identification are topics that can only effectively be discussed and answered in message boards. There is no other resource or web site as comprehensive or with as much potential for someone knowledgeable to provide answers for our anxious questions. Where else could you ask about the authenticity of a particular social custom in a foreign culture and have a native who still remembers that period in history provide a detailed and accurate answer? Where else can you ask about a certain type of Asian cuisine and have a professional chef from Japan answer with authority that even though that is no longer the way they cook that dish in Japan, the movie was accurate in its portrayal of the way it was done in said time period? Social web sites do NOT provide the convenience and organization of a message board and most important questions get lost amid the clutter of irrelevant chatter. There is no other source as relevant and reliable as the IMDb message boards to find similar recommendations, which are critical to film buffs worldwide. I have learned so much and the message boards have truly enriched my on-going education and had such a positive impact in my life that I am devastated that they are being shut down. Many that contributed to these boards with such vital information of times past, including those who still remember what aspects were like during the WWII era, are no longer with us. PLEASE reconsider, or at the very least, keep an archive saved somewhere!

I know if I don't understand details about a movie, I can come here and knowledgeable people on the boards will explain it. For 12 years I've also made real-life friends here who I've traveled to meet and see the world. Please reconsider.
