I hope they've saved all those data somewhere but i guess they just don't care.
IMDB owes its success to thousands of committed and unpaid data contributors over the years and the shutdown has just showed us the upsetting lack of sense of gratitude by IMDB staff towards its community.

After watching a movie I often turn to the message boards to look for answers or hypotheses about lingering issues or unanswered questions. Without them I will have much less use for IMDb.

Despite an increase in trolls (who can easily be ignored by mature people), I am very disappointed the boards have been shut down. IMDB was still my favourite place to visit to seek plot clarification and learn people's views. I want it back.

The IMDB Message Boards were the best place on the internet where to get information, share opinions and ask questions about films, TV series and people in the business.
I've been using them for years.
I may still come back to look at somebody's filmography or when a film will be released, but there are many other places on the web for that, so....

I must confess that I'm more of a lurker on the boards, than an active contributer. But though it's more reading than writing and posting, I am a frequent visitor.
I will probably keep using IMDB despite the lack of boards, as it does provide iformation, and is the best database and site for information regarding movies and the cast and crew behind them.
However, the experience will be different, and not in a good way.
As I am somewhat of a cinephile, and I without really trying to, actors and actresses get stuck in my head almost similar to photographic memory, faces, mannerisms, voices etc. I enjoy venturing on boards, reading peoples observations and see if and how they match mine.
And boards often have info on them from personal experiences. Also the occasional messages from the actors themselves.
As I said, I will keep using the site, but my time spent there will be considerably shorter.

IMDB's forum were the first thing I'd visit after watching a movie. Now that they're gone, IMDB doesn't have much value to me anymore. Other DBs present about the same information, but lacked the nice discussions on the forums.

This is a major, major, and dare I say huge miscalculation on IMDB's part. Yes, there are trolls, but so what? Trolls are everywhere. You go around them, just as you go around them in life. There are also great film fans that aren't interested in writing a review, but would rather just focus on a small detail that sticks out in the film. These people are thoughtful observers who often make me see the world differently. I posted repeatedly on the message boards for over ten years, especially for obscure movies that left the radar. Then a few days or weeks later, I would get a reply and find out that someone else had a similar mindset, which was great. I feel like you just downgraded what made IMDB so special for trivia minded film lovers. And what gets me the most, you never took the time to ask me--your loyal follower--what I thought about the messageboards. I will still go on IMDB, but not as much. You can fix this now. Fix it, please, in the name of your loyal followers.

Wow, I've used the message boards for my 16 year membership with IMDB. It was an important resource and a way to connect with others in the moment of feeling a certain way about a film or program.
That's gone now. I'm very saddened by this. It's like when they took away the ability to catalogue your films. It's as if whoever is working at the site has different goals than most sites.
They're continually looking for ways to make their sites sticky to draw users again and again while IMDB cuts the things that make the site relevant and useful. Sad.

Never wrote anything on the board...but constantly checked user reports and looked up the reviews to see other peoples views and opinions of the movies. After shutting down the message board imdb.com is only a site to view trailers and the cast list. Theres not much more to it.

Not one person thinks that closing is a good idea. It's an internet institution that a person would watch a film and then come to IMDB and look on the message boards. PLEASE reconsider!
