I've been a member for over ten years. The message board has been my primary reason for coming to IMDB. Member discussions have been a huge resource for me in helping me understand more about a film. When I've encountered members whose speech was unacceptable - I simply set them to ignore. This is a sad day for lovers of cinema and free and open discourse. If this was a decision based on fear of "hate speech" - then it was a cowardly decision. If this was a decision based on economics - how will the bottom line look after losing so many visitors?

I used the IMDB Message Board frequently and I'm think it's a great loss. Please reconsider your dicision and put it online again.

The boards were great. I once posted a query which the DOP of the film bothered to post a reply to. Such a shame!

The message boards were a great place to gain insight into the film maker's rationality. I can't believed years of discussion were wiped out so willy nilly. I won't be visiting IMDb as often as before.

Well it's been nearly a week without the boards, and I must say I feel a bit more empty now that they're gone. The boards were such a positive, and constant part of my movie watching experience. Shame on IMDB and Amazon for deleting memories, factoids, personal anecdotes, and detailed thematic interpretations without a second thought.

IMDb is now little more than a list of facts that can obtained from any of a half dozen other sites. It instantly went from my favorite and most used website to a redundant reference. Stupid move.

Please bring back the message boards. They were an invaluable source of finding answers to questions that can't be found elsewhere. IMDB message boards were a forum where answers could be found for obscure questions that can't be found on popular social media. It gave an avenue to narrow down your audience to people who are interested in the same topic. Your comment that the boards "no longer provide a positive, useful experience" may apply to you, but I can assure you that it's not how your users have felt. If your concern was the issue of trolls, get over it. Trolls are found everywhere and most social media venues would need to be shut down in order to rid ourselves of them. We're all accustomed to the nuisance of trolls and have learned to ignore them.

The imdb boards were a great place to go and discuss films you'd seen. Chatting about things you'd noticed or asking questions for others to clarify. I'm not sure I will have a use for imdb anymore.
