Petition to keep the IMDB messageboards going

I simply can't imagine life without the boards. Please reconsider.

The only reason that IMDB is actually useful is because of the message boards. The rest of the information can be easily found on Wikipedia, YouTube and just generally the internet without any difficulty. The message board provided a voice for the common viewer. Trolls, just like bad films were both entertaining and easily ignorable. I have no use for IMDB without the message boards and I imagine a lot of traction will be lost because of this. Generations of movie goers will be alienated because of this decision, and I don't see how that's good for business, which makes me think the reasons given for shutting down the message boards are entirely fabricated.

IMDB's message boards is sometimes the reason I use the website because I like to hear the perspectives of other people, Without the message boards IMDB won't be as good.

Several sites have the old message boards archived (thanks to Archive Team who got the most, a torrent and their personal efforts). Not everything was lost. Check: https://hashed.io https://imdbarchive.com https://moviechat.org https://onemovieavenue.com (https://themoviedb.org has no archives but has a database and individual boards for you to start anew.) You can also sign up at them to continue posting and meet other IMDbers there. I'm sure more sites will appear. Hope this helps for now.

Second post here, but, I am REALLY missing the message boards! Even if you want to disable current and future postings, couldn't you leave the archive of past posts available to read? There were always interesting bits of info available and links to outside sites of fan interest, even if you have to bear with occasional trollishness. Please rethink your policies!

It was a very bad decision

I'm a big fan of IMDb I think the message board was one the best parts of the site. Sometimes reading someone's take on the film gives you a better understanding of the story. Please bring it back:)

I was a member of imdb since the start when it was a university of Cardiff project. You are probably in breach of the law for closing the forums for destroying UK government funded research data.

I honestly do not understand this decision. Sure, there were a lot of negative comments, but isn't that part of life? If you can't handle negativity in life, you really need to get out into the real world. The IMDB message boards were the main reason I visited the website weekly. Any time I saw a new movie, or binged a new show, I'd go to the boards and see what people were saying about it. Now, I really don't have a reason to go to the site at all. I honestly hope that enough people stop visiting the site that the revenue takes a beating - maybe that will be the wake up call that management needs? I know I won't be going there any more.

I'll be going to Wikipedia for general film information. RIP IMDB.

Save the message boards. They provided useful information and discussion. I visit IMDB infrequently since February.
