A huge mistake on IMDb's part. The boards did no harm and were a staple of the website. I know that I won't visit IMDb as often if the Message Boards are taken down.

I have been visiting IMDB boards regularly for 13 years and it is a real shame to see them go no other place has boards for every tv show and movie.
Please consider keeping them open.

I've been a user of the site for over twelve years, and it disappoints me that all of this is being thrown away because of a bunch of trolls. Don't let them win and ruin a wonderful community that has 250 million users.

There is no site on the net that can compete with the imdb message boards when it comes to fans discussing older or more obscure movies than the mainstream. It is a great blow to lose this.

It is not a good move to disable the message boards. These boards are full of activity and interesting discussions, where generally it's been easy to make friends, and are generally used more than any other functions (yes even the user reviews). If you disable these boards, you will lose a lot of customers and the site will become a wasteland, many of whom have been regulars for a long time and use the message boards to help them through the day. I have made a lot of friends through the message board and have earned a lot of admiration for my contribution to IMDb and I really do not want that to stop, due to you letting selfish trolls, with the aim of destroying IMDb's credibility, win.
If you are really serious about it being a negative experience due to presumably trolls, disabling a very popular feature is not the answer. What actually needs to be done is much stricter monitoring of the boards and imposing much more serious sanctions upon those abusing the function. There has been a lot of violation of terms and conditions and nothing is being done, disabling the boards is a sign of giving up and laziness not what you think is going to make things better.
And while you're at it, a much better job needs to be done monitoring the user reviews system as well. As there are a lot of reviews for films that are not reviews and more parroting of plot-holes, plot summaries and launching vitriol towards anybody with different opinions or the general consensus yet are being approved, just because you seem to approve anything that's submitted regardless of the content and don't actually read what has been written.
Because I sure am sick of seeing useless non-reviews that give little to no reasons for like/love of a film and instead resort to personal attacks and critic bashing being excessively up-voted while actual articulate, balanced and sincerely written reviews are being down-voted, as it actually misleads people as to how good or bad the film is and how to

Social media is great if you want to blather about the latest movie blockbuster or trendy reality show, but where else can the rest of us go to connect with fans of more obscure stuff?
And by the way there's plenty of intelligent people who avoid social media, because we all know you're not going to find intelligent discussion there.

The IMDB boards are the best/only centralized place to discuss a movie or TV show. Yes, there are always trolls anywhere, but mostly, the boards provide a place for people to connect with others they might not meet otherwise. I've been on IMDB for over 15 years and have made so many amazing friends through the boards. They also help people share information and ask/answer questions that would otherwise be difficult to do. I can understand wanting to close boards for actors, directors, etc., but please leave them up for movies and TV series.

To me, as an avid fan film of film, from watching to studying to critiquing them, I have to say that I, along with most of the community on IMDb, are very disappointed in this decision. Sure, there some that shouldn't be commenting on message boards, but why would we go to social media sites to discuss films with other fans? That's what we have the message boards for. They are a very integral part of the site. Without them, you lose an element of the site that people love. Getting rid of the message boards mean cancelling my membership.

Closing the IMDB message boards? Nothing is more inconvenient than trying top find out what people think of a particular movie than to go to its IMDB page and look up the message boards.
It's far easier to go to the IMDB Facebook page and scroll through 10 million posts about other movies, to discover that nobody has made a post yet. This is a far more satisfying use of my time. Who is the idiot who dreamed this up?
