I love the message boards, it's the first place I come to after watching any movie, and a great way to talk to fans.

This board - irrespective of the idiot trolls whom I just ignore - offers so much to a passionate film lover! I'll be extremely sad to see it go.

IMDB message boards are vital to the film lover's community. We learn much more from these boards than we do from the info provided by IMDB. IMDB is shooting themselves in the foot.

Not everyone wants to use social media, particularly to debate about films.. they are not built for that, you can't support a forum on them. The message boards are the only unique feature of IMDb from Wikipedia (user reviews are in every review site these days, not very relevant), it's the main reason I, personally visit it, losing that means a fatal blow to the brand in the long-run (although they don't seem to see that yet). The other community features (like personal lists) are horrible already without becoming completely obsolete once you disable personal messaging now, the site won't survive this.
Scrapping the boards (ie- the IMDb community) will not only hurt the site, but the film industry and the movie-goer community in general. When you are shutting-down the boards and personal messaging you are indifferently alienating the already small but invaluable section of people who keep your site alive by submitting film facts and correcting mistakes on titles/pages.
The industry today needs an unfiltered, raw, collated space where ideas are discussed, analyzed, merited and yes, even trashed to keep the feedback active from fan communities to the studios/filmmakers and a controlled, corporate-hyped Facebook fan page for a movie with a non-existing UI for browsing topics isn't going to serve that.
When all is said and done, shutting down the message boards= death of IMDb, which in turn, means the death of movie-communities and in due time, the death of the movie industry in general. Your choice Amazon, people aren't statistics. And remember, no matter what you may think, people will pay triple to see a good movie in theaters than buy it from your shopping-cart.. think about what you're selling first, not about how you're going to sell it.

I have been an IMDB member for 11 years. I check the boards after every tv show or movie that I watch. I have learned many useful things from the boards, such as; translations of foreign dialogue, the meaning of British slang, how the movie differed from the book, suggestions for related movies or shows, etc. For shows that are less popular, older or foreign this is sometimes the only place to go for a discussion. I do not post that often, but I read the boards almost daily. I do not use facebook or twitter. I prefer the discussions to the reviews. Please don't shut down the boards!

Shutting down the message boards is terrible. It is a place where movie lovers and binge watchers go to share their opinions and spread light on certain ideas/ notions that people overlook. I dont see the harm in letting us users share and discuss cinema.

I visit IMDB every day and only look at the boards. It's what distingishes the site from just googling movie info or going on Wikipedia.

Please don't close down the message boards. The discussions, conversations, and topics that go on there would all be wasted if you close them down. The trolls and bad apples are inconsequential.

It's to early for April Fools!
The message boards are one of the main reasons why I go to IMDB. I can find more updated secondary casts lists elsewhere.
