Please don't get rid of the message boards. Thats one of the main reasons that I visit the imdb site.

A real shame. Be nice if they at least kept the existing messages, even if they prevented further replies.

Over the years I've been an a frequent user and this news is absolutely terrible in many ways.

The only reason to go to imdb is to see who is in a movie and to go to the forums. Removing them is a huge mistake and will really hurt the community. It's even worse than if Youtube were to not allow any comments on videos.

After over a decade of visiting IMDB in order to read and participate in the debates and opinions of others, I have today found out that IMDB has the intention of permanently silencing perhaps the single greatest source for shared opinion of entertainment available on the internet. These boards, while at times heated and abused, provide an excellent common place for people from around the world to share their opinions of movies and television shows ranging from the newest blockbuster to all but forgotten pieces from decades gone. In the light of this sad revelation I have seen an outpouring of discontent online, from angry posts on IMDB’s forgettable “Facebook” page to online petitions, signed by individuals from all over the world, calling for the preservation of these esteemed boards. While I must admit the IMDB boards do have their problems with trolling and flagrant off topic conversation, I feel this is an issue better resolved with community moderating enabling the deletion of cruel comments and blatantly off topic threads, a task I am certain many, myself included, would volunteer for. Instead IMDB has elected to throw the baby out with the bathwater and condemn itself to internet obscurity and obsolescence. Undoubtedly other sites shall either step up or be created to fill the hole generated by the suspension of these boards but their absence shall always be felt. Where else can one turn to discuss twenty or thirty or forty-year-old films or television shows recently discovered or remembered? Film trivia can be found on a plethora of sites but nowhere else is there such a complete collection of pages for obscure works with such a large user base to enable conversation on them. On the twentieth of February another giant of the internet shall fall into obscurity and obsolescence, and it shall be missed by those who once spent a few hours discussing film and television shows with strangers the world over, connected only by an interest in those programs. It is my ritual to visit a movie's board on IMDB after watching it. There are no other forums like this, PLEASE do not get rid of this!

Don't shut down the message boards - they are my "go to" as soon as I've watched a new movie. Can't believe you are planning to take that away from us!

I will have much less interest in visiting the IMDB site if the message boards are gone. Much less.

My favorite thing to do on IMDb is look through the message boards and gain insights through what the people say. Countless time has been spent doing that to my enjoyment. Removing this feature would be a big mistake and sever the connection between so many of us film lovers who enjoy looking up information about it in the first place. These message boards have become a home and a haven for all of us film buffs. While trolls may be annoying people on the forums, they're not so big, bad, and scary if you really think about it. We can easily ignore them. Or better yet, we can push past their crap and talk louder about the movies we love. I sign this in the hopes that this decision can be reversed and film lovers everywhere can keep enjoying talking on the message boards.

I spend many hours on the comment section.. gives me clarity on shows/movies, nice to hear others opinions, and is entertaining in itself. I will no longer be using this site if the message boards are disabled. Very disappointed in your integrity.
