The message boards were my number 1 reason for visiting IMDb. I enjoyed reading the discussions and interpretations of movies, after I watched them. I doubt I will visit the site after the boards shut down.

Please do not end the message boards, people need a venue for intelligent film discussion.

Very bad decision to disable the boards. The social media (FB etc.) will 100% not do, especially for old and obscure content. This will be a terrible mistake, no doubts about it.

The main pleasure of IMDb is the message boards. The trolls are easy to ignore, that's no valid excuse. Abuse is far worse at Twitter and they're not shutting that down. Honestly, 2016 and this year are horrific enough without you adding to it.

The IMDb message boards have been a site that I have visited for years. To see them go away would truly be unfortunate.

This board is full of information, a base for research and enthusiastic discussions, vast knowledge which has been built up over years. If you give away the control of the content to other platforms, such as facebook, twitter and so on, you are not anymore in control of that content. The trolls are great everywhere, and could invade the other platforms as well. But if IMDb will totally close the board for use for anyone, then the trolls have won, and real knowledge about all movies will be gone, especially if you discuss independent or rather unpopular movies. IMDb is the hub for movie information worldwide!

Every time I see a movie that affects me either in a good or bad way I have to know what other people are thinking. The first and only place I go are the IMDB message boards. Although I never post I've been doing this for years. I have personally probably made 10 or more people lifelong IMDB fans. I NEVER sign petitions and obviously life will go on, but it will go on with a pretty big void, please don't take this away from us. Honestly without the message boards my IMDB use will probably drop atleast 90%. Thanks for listening. Nick Krueger

I have visited imdb for far longer than I've had an account with it. In all that time there were many changes (such as relegating the composer to the full movie details, or providing localized movie titles) which I didn't like, but could work around (few more click or using akas.imdb).
The shutting down of message boards is the worst change to befall imdb, just because some vocal thin-skinned users can't deal with hateful muck that is pervasive on the internet today. But amid that troll compost, there are always grains of knowledge and insight into less popular or accessible movies which I've found indispensable to broadening of my understanding of films in particular and general.
Even worse would be to disable access to already existant message board posts or delete them, as most of the old movies (which generally benefit from some extra insight by movie buffs), aren't targets for trolls and haters anyway.
I know I'm skirting Goodwin's law here, but I'd say the deletion of message boards is tantamount to book burning.
