Petition to keep the IMDB messageboards going

Such a shame to see them go, these boards are fantastic to give users great discussions about film and plot. Not positive? I don't see that.

Let's be rational here. Don't kill the dream.

The Message Boards Are the most important reason I even spend time on IMDb. Please don't close them >.<

Don't drop the message boards!! It is the core of IMDB!

Please don't shut down the message boards, how else can I express my opinions on movies and tv shows, answer people's questions, and not have the topics disappear after a few days.

Please save!

Please keep the message boards; some of us don't have your other options, such as Facebook, etc!

Anyone who knows me knows I'm one that delves into tl;dr territory and I could write a dozen paragraphs on this subject, but fact is they don't see any value in us. It's Amazon that bought the site that WE the users made through our hundreds of thousands of contributions, fact checking, plot writing basically everything on the site that in text originated from us(95%+). So when Amazon chooses to ignore us little people(and they sure will) please CANCEL YOUR AMAZON PRIME ACCOUNT AND NEVER RENT ANOTHER FILM FROM THEM VOD, that's the only thing they care about is money and when their profits slide they'll know why. Amazon(IMDb) cares nothing about us unless we're paying them in some form, so lets stop paying them. Shop EBAY over AMAZON, it's free shipping without a "special $99 membership" I get stuff cheaper and quicker from EBAY anyway.

There is nothing like the IMDB message board anywhere else, it will be an unspeakably huge loss. I am not a contributor, but a deeply devoted reader. To be able to find my question / confusion / passionate point amongst the board discussion on say, the lesser known 1940s movie I just watched is - sublime, incredibly enhancing of of my movie experience. Trolls are inevitable, i just skip over that. PLEASE KEEP THE MESSAGE BOARDS, it is what makes IMDB.

Please don't take the message boards down. While I do not post, I love reading the various organized discussions regarding actors, movies and tv series. It's the main reason I come to imdb and I don't know of any other organized, quality, entertainment discussion board on the internet.

I very much enjoy the IMDB boards to ask questions and get feedback from other people. Sure, there are a few trolls here and there, but they are in the minority. Please keep the message boards!!

What is the point of stopping these. They're fun and hurt no-one.

Please keep the boards in place - I come to the boards for tv shows and movies on a daily basis; I am very grateful for the insight and input on the shows and most of the time find answers to questions I have about those shows.

I was shocked and heartbroken when I saw the announcement. For many years I have been in the habit of going to IMDB to read the trivia section, then I head straight for the message board. I love seeing what others thought of the film that I just watched. I have had countless questions answered, and also enjoy helping others understand something that they were confused about. I love connecting with others with our mutual love (and sometimes hatred) of movies. It makes absolutely no sense to" leverage emerging technologies and opportunities for your hundreds of millions of users to communicate" (Paraphrasing your own words). Please listen to us when we beg you to reconsider.

I've never over the past 12 years as a member on IMDB used any social media website to communicate my feelings in regards to a movie... I don't really understand the logic what-so-ever in getting rid of the message boards. I read way more on the boards than I post, and retain information about movies that can't be found anywhere else including navigating to other parts of the IMDB website in search for other content that may interest me. There is no other place to do this, and there never will be. The logic behind this decision is entirely flawed and needs to be reevaluated.

I have been on IMDB for many years. While I do post on occasion, it's been quite infrequently and I usually stick to just reading the comments, especially after either seeing a film or possibly seeing one that I am interested in. This goes double for TV series. I have had many more positive, informative experiences on these message boards, than negative ones, by a mile. I have no doubt that trolling takes place, hell, I've seen it. I am just saying that in my experience, that has been outnumbered by the thoughtful, intelligent posts that I've seen. I think IMDB is making a big mistake by doing this. As I read from one user, it will just be a glorified Wikipedia for movies. The message board makes it so much more. It's impractical to just tell their users to go to Reddit or Youtube or Facebook, they simply aren't the same thing for various reasons. I am sure that there is a simple remedy to the trolling problem on your boards without throwing the baby out with the bathwater. IMDB is owned by Amazon, a huge multinational with a lot of bright minds. Be creative, think of something.

How dare you wipe away what users have created? Users built this site from the barebones layout in which it started, contributing in so many ways adding the info that was needed, info that IMDb itself cared not to do itself. Amazon is IMDb everyone will remember that come time for next years Prime subscription and will stop VOD'ing altogether, you didn't think this through very well at all. Everyone buy Ebay not Amazon.

IMDb is popular not just because of its extensive database but its large and active user base that provide meaningful ratings, reviews and discussions. Similar to any consumer internet / social media site, the success of the venture depends on active users and a decision that can bring down activity significantly (such as this one) is unlikely to be a positive step. So what gives? It is not a surprise though. Since the day I saw the login options multiply to 4, one knew that greater social media integration was about to come. However, to strip the site of it's core attractiveness is poor decision making and will certainly haunt Amazon in future. Fair to say, people will migrate to other platforms that do not shoo away their own users like this but it will be sad to see this go.
