I've been posting at IMDb since 2003 -- aside from the occasional "bad apple," I seem to recall mostly positive experiences on the boards over the years, and I still primarily use the site to discuss some of my favorite shows. I love sharing news and trivia, having other people with whom I can share my enthusiasm / vent my frustrations / speculate and predict where stories are going, absorbing knowledge from different points of view, and answering questions / criticisms other people raise. Social media may be convenient for spouting whatever thought pops into your head the moment you have it, but I can't say your Twitters, Facebooks, etc. allow for the kinds of sustained, in-depth and informative conversations that the boards are capable of at their best.

Dear IMDb,
weren't for your site, my love for films wouldn't be that big. But a portion of that love comes from being able to talk about my love, the movies, and their plots and tit-bits & details with various fans or viewers from around the world. That, through your message boards under the movies or artists' profiles. Therefore I appeal to you and your love to movies to change your decision to delete the message boards.
Sincerely
Jiří Žák or Jay Zak

I wonder to what extent this decision was made in order to save the cost of employing moderators. Of course we know that Amazon, the IMDB owner, needs even MORE money!

Please do not shut the message boards down. The film/show specific boards are a great way to interact with others regarding said film/show. No other site offers that.

The message boards is really the only reason why I use IMDb. I love discussing things about films with other enthused people. Sure, trolls are trolls, but nothing will beat talking about a small pointless tidbit of a film with someone else who is just as eager to discuss it with you.

I really, really enjoy the messages boards and would be so disappointed to lose them. They're the reason I visit this site. Please reconsider your decision to close the message boards.

This is terrible news. 90% of my time at the IMDb site has been spent on the film message boards. I am very upset by Amazon's decision.

There simply is no other place to discuss films and TV shows this way. Nothing compares, especially not the ones you've listed in your statement. Please do not close these forums. After the small handful of forums that attract the serial trolls, there are thousands and thousands of forum areas for films that are troll free. I don't care about private messaging, I only want the forums to remain open
