A ridiculous and extremely bad business decision that hopefully will bring on the downfall of IMDb. You don't deserve your loyal group of fans, and I for one will go elsewhere. To treat people who have contributed to make IMDb what it is, so badly, you don't deserve any future support. A truly narrow minded and idiotic decision, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

Closing boards will kill 50% of your traffic and is plainly retarded. Don't be so damn prude

Using Facebook instead is a really stupid idea. It's going to be impossible to comment on individual shows and keep topics organized.

I always liked to go to the discussions after seeing a movie or a new episode to see if others noticed stuff two. I'd always learn something new. Without this function, I will rarely use the site.

I have been using the forum for over 10 years. Everytime I see a movie or finish a tv series , it is the first place I come to post and read questions / information about them. Please keep them open

I also hate trolls and negativity, but everyone has to learn to deal with them if they want to surf the web. Also JUST WHY?

Please reconsider IMDb! Not everyone uses social media. Stop destroying everything that made this site great those past 20 years and driving loyal members away. Keep the Boards!

It is shocking how IMDb can be insane enough to close down the Message board! We will also not be able to send Personal Messages! IMDb now wants us to divert our attention to Facebook & Twitter for discussions. But those are poor substitutes for a message board that deals with a specific topic.
I suspect the reason for this "diversion" is more and more Money,

I think you have greatly overestimated the value of your product sans messages boards. Remove the boards and what have you got left? If I want to watch a movie trailer, I go to Youtube. If I want to find out about a new movie coming out I'll type the name of the movie into Google and click on one of the numerous news/entertainment sites in the search results. I can use Wikipedia if I want to find info on a movie or actor bio. Rotten Tomatoes for a film critics view on a film. You might tell me that I can do all of this from IMDb but I don't and am unlikely to change my habits. The whole reason I visit this site, even if I don't bother posting on the boards, is to visit the message boards and see what people think, see if I've missed anything, etc. I do this after every film I watch and this is the value of your site.
I also saw you mention that the boards no longer provide a positive experience. I wholeheartedly disagree. I have made many friends on this site from all over the world and from different ethnicity and backgrounds. In a world that is seemingly becoming more insular and intolerant, why would you not welcome this opportunity to promote inclusiveness? How many sites can you name where an Iranian and an Australian can come together and talk about their passion for a film or films? There is nowhere else and you are prepared to lose this because of a few trolls and punish the 90% who do the right thing? If it's a money thing then charge people $10 a year.
You are making a mistake and in time I think you will realize the folly of this decision.

You're going to shut down imdb's message boards? That is absolutely insane. That is one of the main reasons I visit the site. You'll be losing a lot of traffic and interest in your site if you actually do this. I will no longer use your site if this is the case and find another place that isn't afraid of people speaking their minds about their films and tv shows.

Often check the discussions to explain a plot point not clearly explained in a movie. This will be a great loss to film appreciation.
