I always scroll to the boards to get a more nuanced opinion of the films. Never led me wrong, even if I don't post on them.

Literally the boards are the only reason I go on IMDB. People have block and report buttons... I don't get what the big deal about trolls and idiots is...
I am deeply interested in films and love to discuss, question, and just generally share my ideas, etc. It is a MISTAKE. A BIG MISTAKE. You will lose a huge amount of users. Good luck. People will look back at this as a BAD IDEA that ruined the site, and led to its downfall.

The IMDb Message Boards are the first (and only) place I go to, when I want to deepen my understanding of some recently seen movie. As the Boards I usually frequent are those of older and not so wildly popular movies, the traffic there is not too high and the trashy and worthless comments are reduced to a minimum. The Boards contain a lot of useful knowledge slowly (and painfully) accumulated over the years and many posts from many kind posters have really helped me to find answers (or at least provided me with engaging thoughts) concerning some of the more obscure elements of the movie in question. I consider the Boards substantial and unique, the real treasuries of movie related knowledge on the internet. So, in my opinion, not wanting to provide the Message Boards service anymore is one thing, and it can certainly be considered your very own decision, but to delete all the assembled knowledge and all the past data certainly is a shameful crime, no question about it.

I love using the IMDb message boards to find out other people's opinions on movies and tv shows. I really hope they aren't shut down as the discussion and exchange of ideas and opinions is very valuable. I'll miss it allot if it goes as I don't use allot of the social media sites IMDb says it will continue to use. The positives outweigh the negatives by a mile!
