Petition to keep Mr. Eising at James Hubert Blake HS

Its really a disgrace that funding being cut in order to boltser funding for a program that does not have the capabilities to really provide career options post high school. While yes, having a robust sports program is great, it should not come at the expense of cutting the arts program. The Arts provides valuable options post high school which sports does not. It can really help students explore career options before college, and teach them skill sets like video production, editing and mastering artistry. While yes sports can teach teamwork and cooperation, it is not the only thing thay does so and not everyone can play a sport. The arts is something that everyone regardless of their skill level, can partipate in. Keep the arts teachers, continue to fund these programs, and don’t leave them by the wayside.

Mr Eising was one of the most influential teachers in my high school career. Not only did he teach us wonderful music, he also taught us dedication and work ethic. He showed us compassion through difficult times and always encouraged us to be better than we thought we were. He deserves more than to be written off as a financial obligation.

My reason for supporting this petition is not because I oppose cutting teaching positions or funding for arts and humanities. I understand that Blake, just like any other school, has finite resources and cannot always afford to fund all of the programs, classes, and teaching positions that it would like to fund. I know that cutting positions is necessary at times, and in many cases I would be unopposed to involuntary transfers of teachers when circumstances call for it. The reason that I, after some thought, decided to sign this petition is because Mr. Eising is an unbelievably poor choice of teachers to remove from Blake. Over my four years at Blake, I’ve never taken a music class or been affiliated with Blake Music in any way. Despite this, I’ve known who Mr. Eising is for nearly my entire time at this school, and have known him personally for nearly two years. We first met when we worked together through High School 101, a program designed to introduce incoming Freshmen to high school. I discovered almost immediately that he is an extremely competent teacher who forges personal relationships with a large number of students in the Blake community, even those who (like myself) will never be involved in music. Despite my not having had the pleasure of taking a class taught by Mr. Eising, he still knows me by name, and greets me when he sees me in school, often asking about how the golf team is doing. Beyond this personal experience, however, I’ve come to learn from my friends in band that Mr. Eising is one of the most important and most well-regarded teachers at the school. Our Music Department’s success, according to nearly all music students, has been attained due in large part to his contributions. He is likely the single most important individual in Blake Music. I know that funding for music is always in short supply, and I understand that a combination of factors such as course selection have led the administration to decide that keeping Mr. Eising is n

I am having a very hard time understanding removing a Band Director from a high school whose signature program is the Arts! My kids have had Mr Eising and he is an incredible teacher and role model. I sure hope this is a huge mistake because, again, this makes no sense at all!

Not just for the way he treats music students but for the way he invites all students to participate in and enjoy the Arts. It would be a crime for Blake to lose him and fully inconsistent with my understanding of the mission of Blake and of mcps to pursue excellence and inclusion!

Mr. Eising is an inspiration and shining example for all students and future musicians. Thanks to his patient efforts, my son is now pursuing a music degree in college. As a music and arts magnet school, Blake has been fortunate to have someone as talented and dedicated as Mr. Eising in their music department for so many years. He should not be transferred if Blake is truly committed to providing a high quality music program for future students.

How do you transfer the head of the department who has built it over the last 14 years!!!!

i just received a call from the principal talking about the policy for the staffing at blake. I understand that the school might have to look at the courses and the amount of students in those classes, but students are going on a big Disney trip soon. Getting rid of Mr.Eising during this time is critical. Also, moving Mr.Eising to a new school should be done next year. Why are you involuntarily moving him now? I thought the point of reducing the staffing was because NEXT YEAR the amount of students in his class have decreased? If this is something for next year, why are you moving him all of a sudden?
