Blake boasts of our orchestra and band that brings home superior ratings from the festivals, and yet still opts to remove the teacher that’s led these kids to such high potential? I’m not a music student at all, but I’ve seen so many friends devastated and outraged by this news that it’s impossible for me to be indifferent .. He’s a teacher that students remember and admire years past graduation. The role he plays at Blake is so integral to who we are as a school whose main mission is to foster creativity and help students realize their full potential. And you fire him in the middle of the year as if he’s just some expendable member of the team. The nature of his involuntary transfer is so out of character for Blake, I’m genuinely shocked.

I don't know why we're ridding of the good teachers and keeping the bad. I won't stop fighting for Mr.Eising

I'm a former colleague, band mom, parent and friend I am shocked and saddened.

We are also outraged. Here is a copy of our email for those who are interested: Dear Mr. Sinclair and leadership of MCPS, We have just been informed by our daughter that Jon Eising is being involuntarily transferred from Blake High School next year. I am extremely disappointed in the leadership that has come to this decision. This is mistake that I hope can be rectified immediately. The one and only reason we chose to send our daughter to Blake was for their instrumental music program. Her preference was Paint Branch and we prevailed upon her to attend Blake, our home school, simply because of the fact that Blake is the signature ARTS and Humanities high school for MCPS. Being told not only that Mr. Eising will be involuntarily transferred but also that it is due to a reduction in arts faculty lets us know that Blake seems not to be really committed to the Arts and that this was all just lip service. Jon Eising has enriched the lives of hundreds of band, orchestra and choir students over the past 14 years. I hope you realize that the Symphonic Orchestra received straight 1 ratings at Festival yesterday and none of that would have been possible without Mr. Eising's leadership and support. Mr. Eising has offered high quality programs and musical experiences for these children and we enrolled our freshman in Blake expecting that that would continue. Last week we attended a concert where at least five excellent groups performed. Mr. Sinclair was so excited about these performances, he recorded them and tweeted them out on his Twitter feed. Half of these groups were directed by Mr. Eising. Mr. Eising was also key to making the Festival performances happen as well as the upcoming Disney trip, which is an unparalleled experience for high school performing arts kids. Mr. Eising is a phenomenal music teacher. He makes every student feel valued and like they can do it. He improves musicians throughout their time at Blake. I’ve seen him as a teacher since he started at Blake when my sister was there, through my time and then my younger brothers and every student loves him. He is not only an excellent musician but a teacher that is so caring and supportive of his and really any student. He should stay at a signature arts high school that he has helped develop the program at and continue teaching excellence in music.

With the three years I’ve been at school, Mr. Eising has shown himself to be a pillar of strength for Blake. He shows an unbelievable caliber for music and to cut him from the department would be a devastating loss to us. Even without the music factor he’s shown himself to be a teacher that cares not just about his students but their well-being as a whole. Please don’t transfer him after all he’s done for our community.

Mr Eising has impacted and changed so many lives of current students and alumni. A bond has been created between him and the whole Blake community. Blake is not Blake without Jon Eising. He has led both band and orchestra to superior ratings at festival back to back years. He believes with every fiber of his being that we as students can do unbelievable things with the skills he pushes us to exceed everyday. PLEASE RECONSIDER!!
