Children need time to work off energy so they can be more consistent in paying attention and being still when in class.

The state of Massachusetts mandates thirty minutes for every six hours of work at every workplace. The fact that these kids don't have this is a tragedy.

I think it's ridiculous that they only get 10 min.. That's just not enough for them to let out some energy.. Kids should have time to be kids. We force them to grow up to fast then complain when they grow up to fast. Shame on you ware public schools

Ironically, minimizing or eliminating recess may be counterproductive to academic achievement, as a growing body of evidence suggests that recess promotes not only physical health and social development but also cognitive performance.10,37 Although recess and physical education both promote activity and a healthy lifestyle, it is only supervised but unstructured recess that offers children the opportunity to actually play creatively.

Recess is what i remember most and have the best memories of from elementary school. Don't limit these kids to only 10min. Imaginative play is so important.

I work at a local elementary school with 6th graders, we get 15 minutes of recess, that is still not enough! We stretch it to 20 minutes most days and cut eating time down by 5 minutes. What a difference it makes when kids get that time to socially interact with each other. Kids need recess!!
