Petition to UL 2196 Regarding Testing For Flammable and/or Toxic Gases

Some UL 2196 / ULC-S139 Listed fire-rated cables produce toxic and/or combustible smoke and gases when exposed to typical building fire temperatures. We know it isn’t very easy to let UL know directly, so we want to provide you with an opportunity to have your voice heard! Join us in petitioning UL to include testing for dangerous gases as part of the UL 2196 standard.
Let UL know that as a Fire Safety Professional you want testing for dangerous gases included in the UL 2196 standard. Fill out the form on the right to sign the petition and make buildings safer by having UL open an investigation into smoke generation, composition and flammability as part of their listed life safety circuits.

I am honestly overwhelmed by the feedback from those of you who work in the field every single day. It has been eye opening to learn how many of you share this concern about current testing standards. This conversation is moving forward only because you chose to speak up.

I am honestly overwhelmed by the momentum behind this because it was never something I imagined could happen so quickly. This whole movement belongs to you and your commitment to safer standards. It is clear that we are all looking for the same improvements in building safety.

Testing standards have got to keep up with the actual chemical makeup of these materials. We are just asking for basic transparency.
Whatever makes the job safer. Tired of these outdated rules.
Ridiculous that toxic smoke isn't tested for. Smoke inhalation is the real killer in these buildings. Fix it.
UL needs to wake up and look at the real world data instead of just checking boxes.
Work in the industry and seen what some of these cables do. They turn into poison gas pipes during a fire. This needs to change ASAP!

How is this not already a requirement? Safety standards should cover everything that could kill someone in a fire.
