The Students of Form Six at St.Joseph’s Convent San Fernando are deeply concerned about the upcoming end-of-term examinations, which in our view, pose several challenges. These exams not only increase the overall stress and anxiety levels for both students and teachers, but also significantly impedes the precious time that could be dedicated to effective teaching, as well as the timely and comprehensive completion of content-rich syllabi and internal assessments (IAs). We firmly believe that the marks obtained from assessments done throughout the term more accurately evaluates the overall progress and performance of students and can be used for end of term. We appeal to you, the parents, to support our cause by joining and signing our petition aimed at eliminating Christmas end-of-term exams for Form Six students. Your support is crucial and will be greatly appreciated.

I have been reading through the comments you are leaving and honestly the stories about burnout are hitting home for all of us. It is overwhelming to see how many of you feel the same way about the pressure of this term. Please know that this is entirely your energy proving that we deserve a bit of breathing room.

November 2, 2023

I am honestly overwhelmed by the momentum this has gained lately. This movement belongs entirely to the students and parents who decided that things needed to change.

Due the incomplete syllabus and on going projects this can put additional strain on the students as they are already preparing for exam in March. 2024

We are under a lot of pressure and have an extremely limited time to complete our IAs, prepare for CAPE exams and maintain an all rounded profile. Hence, due to the extra stress end of terms adds to our already busy school schedule, it should be cancelled.

The form 6 students are under a lot of pressure to complete the syllabus, while simultaneously trying to do SBAs and study for their upcoming CAPE exams. Also, teachers are already under a time constraint to teach the entire syllabus and adding end of term exams just hinders that even further. Therefore, end of term exams should be canceled

The students of Form 6 are already extremely occupied with SBAs, assignments, and other extra curricular activities. Not only this, but they also have limited time to complete their syllabus and need to utilize all of the time that they have.

I do believe that this end of terms is not necessary for form sixers as this would allow their focus to be on labs, get further into the syllabi, as well as balance their academics with song and dance preparation. Midterms as well as courseworks have been given throughout the term and will continue until the end of the term to note student's performance rather than having end of terms for this term as it was last year.

I strongly agree with this petition. In previous years the time taken for end of term was spent teaching which in fact was very beneficial to us in the long run. Although i do understand the intent to better our transcript, I believe end of term exams would put a strain on our mental and emotional stability.
