Petition to dissolve current SACAP Board/Council due to Mismanagement of the Architectural Profession

What currently is happening, is exactly what was predicted when this was lobbied way back! At the time, I was called "a keeper of the gate".

Good day I used to be registered as as a candidate draughtsman but has since not renewed. This was due to SACAP not responding to any of the complaints that I had sent to them. Such as municipal officials who collude with draughtsman and take kickbacks. Recommending which architects to use. Suugestig prices to clients that architects will charge or should charge. Plans disappearing at the municipal offices in order to discredit people like me. Bbd mouthing of some architects in order favour others in order for municipal officials to benefit. Draughtsman charging way low prices thus making cheap the profession. Mentoring of candidates by professionals with lower qualiications. Candidates who submit plans but none of their details appear on the plans and are not registered. The quality of plans submitted yet sacap preaches maintanance of professional standards. Failure of the board to come to the municipalities to check if the architects that submit are registered and do maintain this professional standard. I have even went as far as informing them that I am also submitting even though I am not registered with them since there are others who are doing it. Long overdue. The status and image of the Architect has been marginalised.

Could not agree more with this petition and fully support it.

What is coming through loud and clear is that ARCHITECTS are aggrieved.Perhaps rightly so.But is it correct and wise,to use the proverbial term, to ''Throw out the Baby with the Bathwater''.Or something to that effect.DISSOLVE SACAP.Then what???What is also coming through is that this petition is for Architects only.What about the other guys??? Senior Technologists,Technologists and Draugthspersons.Don't they matter in the grand scheme of things.Or should they also start their own Petitions,per each category? The heading of this petition speaks volumes: ARCHITECTS FOR CHANGE.

Increase in SACAP staff salaries ? While you're at it could you adjust the fees page too ? But in all seriousness - fully behind this petition.

I have read SACAP's response, i wish to remove my name from the petition - please advise how i would do so?

I noticed that SACAP's response indicates that ' good standing' forms part of our anual fee. this is incorrect. we pay extra for good standing.

Ive been in private practice since 1979, and when forced to join SACAP I ask that I continue as a professional who is "Exempted from the Architects Act" as is/was a privilege of many of my colleagues from the days of the M.S.A.I.B.D. (Member of the South African Institute of Building Designers) Effectively this gives one the provision of being a full architect and to act as such BUT NOT to call oneself an architect, this by virtue, in those days, of having been in private practice continuously for longer than 10 years. This was REFUSED to me. My next gripe was I was taken to task and had a disciplinary hearing as a result of one of my clients not being satisfied, EVEN AFTER he accepted the fact that I had relocated to the Eastern Cape (from KZN) and handed his file and works over to a friend and colleague who let him down, yet I was given the hearing, the sanction was pronounced and handed down before the date and time of filling mitigating circumstances. (how strange). Naturally I appealed and to this day Ive never heard a word. Finally my main gripe is that I feel SACAP should enforce the fee structure on everybody in the profession, there is far too many price cutters in the game, I lost a favourable contract to a non registered professional who "quoted" 15 cents per square meter........... what the hell is .15 cents per square meter as a measure for quotations for professional services anyway. Most lastly what do we pay these fees for anyway ?????? Can somebody actually tell me why and for what purpose do we HAVE TO by demand pay these fees, before this lot I and many 1000's of other professionals going back in time ran our practices quite favourable without having to "by Law" pay some organisation annual fees, without any option, it is forced upon his to be a member and if we don't its a criminal act......despite the democratic right to work and earn a living.

Very poor service

Sacap register people without no qualifications as professionals but those with qualifications as candidates due to their race or association with officials. Sacap doesn't cater black south African professionals whereby there's less architects , but most foreign professionals are registered as professionals architects with equal or less qualifications why is it so? Please investigate this matter

We need change not threats SACAP

I agree. SACAP is a Scam and a Con. They do not care about making a change, only collecting the increasing yearly fees EVEN if the member is unemployed and struggling. They only know how to kick people when they are down. What a sham.

SACAP has proved to practice immoral practices on multiple occasions. They exploit hardworking professionals and are never held accountable for there actions.
