1. Telephone service is in shambles 2. Struggled with my registration process and to get feedback when promised 3. Had to send countless emails regarding the same matters over and over again 4. Cannot access my profile on the website and requests are not answered.

We need alternatives to SACAP, So that there can be competition. With only one choice they are allowed to do whatever they want. And all they do is take our money, they can't even answer the phone or an email. Incompetent!!!

- Court could be approached for clarification regarding the architects' act and the competition act with regards to ID of Work and Guideline fees - there was enough money in the council accounts before increases in salary, and with contradicting acts it can't simply be "negotiated".
- If Municipalities can get "legal opinion" that they do not need to enforce the Building Regulations with regards to registered persons being appointed, SACAP should certainly have been able to procure an alternate legal opinion. Legal action should be taken against a non-complying local authority to establish precedent.
- If non-registered persons are practising architecture in violation of the Architect's Act, SACAP should be laying criminal charges and facilitating prosecution
- if Architect's are providing service at the fees talked about around the braai, it is certain that the public is not getting competent service - e.g. through allowing cut-throat fees, SACAP is failing in their primary responsibility to protect the public. As much as innovation and competition is needed, the race to the bottom serves no-one
- if the NHBRC managed to get the banks to support them and their use, why can a qualified profession not manage to get any recognition from funders?
- why has SACAP not engaged with insurer's to discuss the risks to them of buildings not being competently designed

I feel that as a regulatory body, SACAP should operate through means that places it beyond reproach. The current board does not represent the ambitions and calibre of professionalism that is needed.

"qui tacet consentire videtur" - in other words, he who remains silent about the sordid state of affairs is not only accepting or approving of it but is also in effect agreeing to its continuance !

The profession is in very big trouble - this petition is good start to improving the value of Architects in the eye of the public and clients.
The barriers of entry into the profession are almost non-existent.
To add to the current dire situation, SACAP has indicated that it is looking to accept interior designers as members.
With the current status quo, who would study Architecture through a university?
I look forward to the time when I can to recommend Architecture as a profession.
