Case Number: REZ-2022-11 – Removal of conditions imposed in 2014 to accommodate construction of a Dairy Queen fast-food restaurant adjacent to Francis Lake Golf Club and Francis Lake Subdivision. We, the residents of Francis Lake Subdivision, encourage the Lowndes County Commission to deny this request and retain the zoning conditions enacted by the Commission in 2014, just eight years ago, to protect Francis Lake Subdivision property owners from the nuisances inherent in certain commercial operations. If the conditions are removed according to the application, we are faced with the construction of exactly what the conditions were designed to prevent – a fast-food restaurant that will significantly and negatively impact our neighborhood. The proposed fence and shrubbery will not provide a sustainable barrier to protect the neighborhood from light (including vehicle headlights), noise and olfactory pollution and the unappealing visual effects of the rear exterior of a restaurant; i.e. dumpsters and the attendant animal scavengers, delivery trucks, and other nuisances intrinsic to the operation of a fast-food restaurant. Removal of the current Conditions #4, 8, 9 and 11 as enacted in 2014 by the Lowndes County Commission effectively exposes our neighborhood to all of the named threats to maintaining property values and quality of life.
