Petition to Create a Safe Delaware Park & Parkside Community

I AGREE with Mr. Miller above. Um, I'm sorry but you do NOT speak for ALL the citizens of Erie County, the City of Buffalo and the State of New York! UNBELIEVABLE! How dare YOU use this tragic death of a small child to push forward your agenda to change this roadway to suit you, a few neighborhood special interest groups without a fair due diligent investigation on the impact of this decision on ALL other people of WNY Motorists who use this road to travel thru the city in a expedient fashion. Going forward with this crusade shows that you have no respect for the grieving family of this young child who died and his sister who was seriously wounded by this horrible accident. Your group, the Governor, Sean Ryan and the Mayor of Buffalo all disgust me! The politicians are all typical media whores using this horrible, horrible tragic event to their benefit at the expense of ALL the people in NYS, because if they get there way, they are going to spend millions of taxpayer dollars to redesign and reconstruct the expressway to a nice idyillic parkway road. How nice! This is TOTAL BS for the rest of us! With all of the tight state budget problems where in the hell are they going to get the funds to do a project of this magnitude? I don't know, maybe they will use school budget money that was taken away from all of the states school systems that now desperately need it back to keep our public schools viable. In response immediately after the accident, how come NO one suggested the short term solution to the park road safety issue to immediately install Jersey barriers and to close off the park road section directly adjacent to the expressway where the danger area is and have the users walk or jog a “C” shaped path, and post a sign "Cross and use this portion of the road at your own risk". This would only minimally inconvenience maybe HUNDREDS of people instead of inconveniencing THOUSANDS of WNY expressway drivers by drastically reducing the spe

You people are ridiculous. The installed jersey barriers and existing guard rails prevent the tragedy from ever happening again. Is my car suddenly going to vault steel and concrete barriers if I go another 20mph? If I go 50 around Niagara street or Grant am I going to lose control and drive into Deleware park a mile away? The 30mph speed limit is overkill and unnecessary. Stop being so self centered. Where the Hell do you think the traffic on the 198 is going to go if it is shut down? Yep, into already clogged city streets. Its a busy area: if you don't like it move!

The 198 should be a Parkway. Period.

It is so very sad to see that our Mayor has lost sight of the people, the community that surrounds the park for a very small benefit. This is a matter of public safety and the Scajaquada Expressway should be permanently transformed into a parkway.

Change is needed. God bless those who are doing their civic duty to enact it.

The park is the center of our city. We as a community have been making profound changes to our rust belt image. A highway through our park is a reminder of the decline of Buffalo. A parkway is a way of reclaiming our glorious past for our prospering future.

For the greater good of our community, for the greater good of our park system, for the greater good of our pedestrians and park go-ers, leave 198 at 30mph! If nothing else, it deters unnecessary cut-through traffic both on 198 itself and the side-streets that surround. Leave it as is, and GET MOVING on the parkway downgrade process. People feel entitled to excessive speeds because the lanes are wide and obnoxious. Downgrade it, implement bike lanes, and behold the splendor!

Its a park. Stop treating it like an expressway . The park comes first. Do the right thing.

The Scajaquada should be no faster than 30 mph anywhere and the limited access ramps should be replaced with at grade intersections.

I live across from the park (near Medaille College) we are part of the Olmstead Park but you would never know, You take your life in your hands crossing the 198 to the park. Additionally, our green space regularly looses street lights. We have an area that is only seven feet of grass buffer between the 198 and our streets. Very scary walking the dog. LETS CHANGE THINGS!!
