Women should have the choice of an insured midwife to attend HER birth. I had this choice in 1989 but since then birth has been taken over by what seems like an over medicalised hospital system that takes away all your choice.

Women have a fundamental human right, to decide where & with whom, they allow their bodies to gently open and give birth (to brand new people)! We NEED a solution to this issue that respects that choice!!!!!

We aren't all ill informed, chakra waving hippies or whatever insult is being thrown around at the moment. My first labour was 4 hours, second 40 minutes and third 20 minutes. My third was born at home before paramedics arrived. If I were to have another child, I would be arranging a homebirth because that would he my most likely outcome, and some support would be better than none at all.

I believe all mothers should get a choice as to where they birth, and should have a midwife who can practice safely and confidently with the support they need to provide the care a mother needs

Where a woman chooses to birth is a basic right so support women to do this with midwives who can support them to do this safely

As a homebirth midwife in NZ (and one who has HAD 5 home births herself) I fully support all women to have the right to choose where they give birth and who attends them. This is a basic human right and should be supported at all levels of society and government. Any less is an infringement on womens basic human rights.

The services that private midwives provide need to continue within our community. They are taking pressure off the public sector and have outstanding statistics for women centered care

Birth matters. Allow women their choice of birth. They'll birth without midwives if it is important enough to them

We should be able to bring our babies into this world where the mother is comfortable to birth her child and also has the comfort of knowing the right support is by her side!

This MUST be passed as home birth is the safest place to give birth when a woman is low risk and no complications

We can choose about everything in life. How is it possible that the choice for woman how and where to give birth is attacked all the time???? The only way to do this job (give birth) is to open up, surrender to nature and deliver her baby is to feel save, free and in controle and everyone else should support her, comfort her and help her to provide the right setting to do this amazing and beautiful job.

My body, my choices. Childbirth is not an illness, I don't have to go to hospital.

Research shows homebirth is safe if not safer than hospital birth for low risk women. Don't take away that choice and force many women to free birth unattended at home without progressional support.

Imperative that this model of care remains available for women
