Petition to Allow Private Midwives to be Eligible for Professional Indemnity Insurance or to Be Exempt from Being Required to Enroll in PI

Women need to have this option or they will freebirth.

This is why I am an Australian midwife working in New Zealand where the national accident compensation scheme provides part of my PII to do homebirths!

i just had a homebirth two weeks ago and received the best care, and had a considerably shorter and more comfortable labour and birth because of the benefits of homebirth. there are amazing professional and experiened midwives out there that provide much better care than in hospitals. please allow women to make this choice of care and provide insurance so this option is available for more women.

As a mother who recently had a lovely home birth after a hospital birth, this really concerns me, Having access to a midwife who was able to support me in my decsion to birth my child at home was imperitiv efor me to experience an empowered birth. It is a basic human right and we have been doing this for all of existence. I implore the Government to lift this exemption as soon as possible as to not deny the safely these women deserve with a trained professional at their sides at a comfortable home environment,

It should be a woman's free choice to birth at home and the right to access good support from her midwife

I support private midwives.

No one has a right to stop women being free to choose where and with whom they give birth. The government has to make a decision to cover private midwives to attend these women.

Reducing the choices of how a mother wants to birth has lingering ramifications for the well-being of everyone.

Choice of birth place and care provider for childbearing women is a fundamental human right.

Lets keep this option alive for women who choose it. It is my preferred birth choice.

Governments do not own life, birth, our bodies or our childbirth. Hands off us. Protect midwifery.

Women deserve the right to make choices about their bodies and their births. Homebirth is safe when done with qualified midwives. To many women will free birth if they can't have a midwife

We are all entitled to choice. When the time comes I want to have the option to home birth if I feel that is right for me.

It truly is sad when policies are reflective of monetary gain for a predominantly male profession over that of women and their right to choose.

Every woman has the right to choose what they do with their body especially with birthing their child.

Our private midwife helped us navigate the medical system, she explained each stage with love & understanding & finally, once our situation became 'risky', she helped us own the experience & make it one of love, not clinical intervention. ❤️

Women have a right to choose where they give birth. The goveryneeds to make home birth as safe as possible for mothers, babies and midwives. Stop the obstruction!

We deserve to have options in where and how we birth. It is extremely disappointing to live in a place that bullies women into having heavily medicalised births with doctors constantly intervening unnessisarily . Other countries respect their women and give them manny options from hospital for high risk , through to birthing centres and home births . All options are not just limited to private Heath , and continuity of care is the norm.

I was lucky enough to be supported by midwives for three home births, it should be every woman's right to choose where she births with the support that is needed.
