Women in Australia need to be able to choose where they birth and safely with a midwife and her family. This is surely a basic human right.

I won't birth in a hospital. So it's either a private midwife, or I just try at home by myself and see how it goes. I choose the midwife because it is safer. Thank you for respecting my choices about my body and my baby.

Common sense and timely. Private midwives should either be made exempt or provided with PI to continue being involved with homebirths.

Giving birth in a natural and supportive environment with a midwife is much more desirable than a hospital. Most births are free of complications and if a problem occurs the midwife should be covered against legal action. Julie moon

I was born at home. My mother was born at home. My grandmother was born at home.
Let women make this choice! It's a human right.
And let these wonderful midwives do their jobs.

Homebirth is just as safe, and should be an available choice for all mums

Agree, private midwives should be allowed to get PI, I do t understand the issue here.

Women deserve the right to give birth however they choose, if that be at home with a private midwife than so be it. The government system should not pass judgement on this, and make a law just to make the medical system more money.

This is absolutely crucial, or a similar suitable solution to the issue. Choice of birthplace is an essential freedom for women and homebirth is a safe option for low-risk women. Without this - it will cease to be a safe option - because it will be illegal for midwives to attend homebirths - putting additional strain on hospitals and forcing women to make difficult and risky decisions should they wish to birth at home.

I'm having a home birth and can't afford a midwife without the insurance.
It's negligent to not allow midwives to attend home births
