Babies should be able to be birthed in a natural home environment. Birth should not have to be a medical procedure.

Wouldn't it be amazing to live in a country where women could birth safely at home or in hospital with the insured support of midwives!

Free up the hospital beds, loose the stigma and let women birth at home like they have done for our entire human history. It's not a medical emergency, it's just birth.

FREEDOM OF CHOICE FOR BIRTHS!! I'd do anything BUT go back to a hospital to birth. Babies will continue to be born at home, midwife or not - it's potentially dangerous to remove midwives from homebirths - for babies and mothers. This is so un-Australian.

What difference does it make to the medical system if a women chooses to birth her children in a hospital or in her own home? This is a complete violation of human rights!

Regardless of your thoughts on birthing at home or whether you would chose it for you or your family, women who chose this option deserve the safety that care from a registered midwife provides.

Pregnant women have the right to choose with whom and where they birth. Independent midwives are needed to support those who choose to birth outside of hospital and they need to continue to be covered by professional indemnity!

I am a graduate midwife hoping to move into private practice, in fact that is the reason I studied midwifery. Please make the changes necessary to allow for real choice in childbirth for the women of Australia. Continuity of care by a known midwife has been shown to improve outcomes and satisfaction, women must be able to access this kind of care and to birth at home safely with a midwife.

Midwifes have an integral role in supporting women to birth at their homes - crazy that they can't be insured when they are professionals!

There will always be women who chose to birth at home. Whether people agree with this or not will not stop families from doing so. There should be systems and services in place to make sure women have access to quality carers practicing in a safe and legal manner. The Australian government subsidises access to insurance for medical professionals, why not extend the same support to midwives?
