Petition to Allow Backyard Chickens in Plum, PA

A small flock of hens would can be easily maintained and has so many perks.

We should be free to have any animals on the land we own, just the same as having vegetable gardens. It is our right to provide food sources for our families.

Even the city of pgh smaller properties allows hens, goats, and bees with urban agricultural laws. Shame on you Plum Township. Communist corrupted corporate oligarchy running these towns taking away our God given right to be self sufficient and reliant on ourselves. big governments best friend, big corporations (tobacco who bought major food industries) has food that poisons us and medicates us with big pharma who doesn’t create cures but customers. It all starts with local corruption.

The ticks are terrible in my neighborhood in Plum and chickens could be a great help! I live on a 3/4 acre lot which is plenty of space for them. I understand not allowing roosters. But let Plum residents raise hens!

We had chickens, not realizing that Plum wouldn't allow it. They forced us to give them away. Allow chickens!

I don’t see a problem. I thought Plum allowed chickens.

I believe that unlike larger livestock, chicken would not pose a problem and would be very helpful to those who would wish to keep the chickens as pets.

I lived in Plumborough as I child and our family had chickens and geese.

Diane, Plum is right beside Penn Hills. Ruth lives 1 street away from Plum. In Penn Hills you are allowed to keep up to 6 chickens, according to Ruth. Why not move to Penn Hills instead Diane.

Lot size restrictions are ridiculous. Chickens don't really take up that much room. Over regulation!

Even Pittsburgh allows you to keep backyard chickens. Get with the times Plum!

I want to keep chickens on my land. I like the idea of being more self sufficient and teaching my young children about raising their own animals. I believe that I would remain living in Plum long term if I was permitted to keep fowl.

My daughter has 5 Auto Immune diseases and she needs protein more than we do. We want to have few Silkies and their eggs will be a huge supplement to her diet as we can’t just buy these type of eggs, not to mention how much less ticks we will see in our backyard since we are surrounded by deers. 4 Silkies would sustain my daughter with her needs for years. That’s all we want, an allowance to have few as pets and as a consequence some health benefits from them. They are small, friendly and don’t make a lot of noises, they are great for an urban area.

I think everybody should be allowed to own a few hens at the very minimum. I understand some people don't like the sound of the roosters but if you have two or three hens they don't even make noise audible to a neighbor right next door 50 feet away. such a great way to be sustainable on a small scale and have fresh food for your family. Also providing nutrients to the soil as well as tick and pest control.

We could use the chickens to get rid of these nasty ticks and bugs that our winters are no longer doing.
