Not allowed for such inspection for basement - city should have done this while construction was being made and they approved that layout

Unfair ARU.

Unfair for those who recently passed the rigours inspection and asked to do it again. Totally unfair.

We can debate the merits of ARU if it helps or hinders the housing crisis in Canada. But it certainly leaves a pungent odor/taste for already legally permitted unit holders, especially at additional expense. Adding to the misery, I see annual check ups in the ARU by-law... ouch! Any law is usually not enforced retrospectively. In good faith, I assume the City wants: 1. safe and affordable housing for everyone 2. to play a role in solving housing crisis 3. to help homeowners with the towering housing costs in the face of climbing unemployment and inflation. Here are some suggestions 1. Only re-consider ARU on the new construction. 2. Have lenient terms on the additional units on the primary residence. 3. Allow overnight parking on the street in non-snowy season. 4. Relax bylaws on the front driveway construction. 5. Offer free-of-charge ARU inspection and make them optional for existing units. 6. Participate in the Federal Government's Making it easier for homeowners to build secondary suites - Canada.ca program. In conclusion, I'm unhappy about the ARU imposition on existing legal units.

Building permit process must be amended rather then billing home owners for an additional aru inspection.

An absolutely unjustified action by the Town. It's a shame that the Councilors, who otherwise claim to be peoples representatives, unanimously approved it. For them - we will see each other in the next election for sure. For Doug Ford - this is what 'cash grab' by a municipality looks like.

Town should not burden unnecessary inspections for the units already checked and inspected as part of building legal ARUs. Infact they should more effort to inspect illegal ARUs which is a real safety hazard for the community.
