The undersigned supports industry located near the Port of Mobile, such as AUSTAL, AIRBUS, and APM Terminals Mobile (i.e. the new container terminal) and will continue to support new industry to Port of Mobile so long as said industry is in harmony with the orderly and appropriate development of the neighboring residential and business communities.
The presence and accumulation of wind-borne “coal dust” originating from existing coal handling facilities is a significant problem for residences and businesses located near the Port of Mobile. New industry that contributes to the presence and accumulation of wind-borne “coal dust” is, in the undersigned’s opinion, not in harmony with the orderly and appropriate development of the neighboring residential and business communities.
I am extremely concerned that the addition of the “Blue Creek Coal Terminal” to the Port of Mobile will exacerbate the problems associated with wind-borne “coal dust” further impacting residences and businesses located near the Port of Mobile.
Therefore, I am opposed to the “Blue Creek Coal Terminal.”

Let them use the existing coal terminal. There is no need for this competition coming into town.
Church Street East has had to deal with coal dust long enough. NO NEW COAL TERMINAL AT THE PORT OF MOBILE!
Our leaders need to fight for the highest quality development in and around Downtown Mobile, the Brookley Aeroplex, and the Port of Mobile. Our community is at an important juncture and we should say "No" to developments that bring deadly, toxic substances in and around our residents, hotels, attractions, and professional businesses, not to mention our rivers, estuaries, and Mobile Bay.
I have lived with coal dust, ruining too many things and constant cleaning. Not to mention the damage it may have done and will continue to do to our respiratory systems.
Coal dust is associated with chronic bronchitis, emphysema, pulmonary fibrosis and environmental contamination through the leaching of toxic heavy metals.
No more coal terminals!
Please no more coal! My house has a layer of black dust on it. And I live about 1 mile from Mobile River. It is probably much worse closer to the waterfront.

My home was painted in the fall of 2013 is now covered in coal dust and needs to be powerwashed. That's bad, but the health of my family is more of a concern.
