CC standards are illegal under 3 federal laws prohibiting the Fed Gov't to infiltrate education. If you, Gov. McCrory support Common Core, then NC is also in violation of breaking federal laws. Put NC education back in the hands of our state not in the hands of the federal gov't and their bribary!

Please do the right thing Governor McCrory. Don't make me regret supporting and voting for you! The representatives and senators did the people's will by passing these bills and so should you! Thank you for your consideration.

This program is a step down from what NC offered in education to our children in earlier years. We should want better, not less, so that NC school graduates have an advantage in seeking better job opportunities!

There are too many issues with Common Core that make it downright dangerous to our children. There is not solely one problem, but a multitude of potentially catastrophic forces at work with Common Core. As a parent and former educator who can see what the future of CC means to our next generation of learners and thinkers...I beg you to please, please bring back education to the local level and do away with this mess of developmentally inappropriate federal standards.

I am so proud of the things you have accomplished thus far in turning our state around. Now I am asking you to "turn around" Common Core. I have 4 grandsons in Surry County schools and thus have researched Common Core and know it is not appropriate for them. Let's turn education back over to the teachers. I do not like my grandsons crying the night before these tests. WE in NC need to decide what & how our children are taught. Being on this strict schedule of teaching to tests is destroying our teachers love of teaching and therefore making our students hate school. As to data mining, NO ONE should have access to my grandsons information except educators UNLESS my children sign a release. All tests should be readily reviewed by the parents. School work should be transparent. PLEASE sign the bill limiting Common Core in our state.

Political and fiscal issues aside, I will speak to you as a mother. The one-size-fits-all approach of common core was not a fit for us. My second grader was in tears on a daily basis and would shut down in frustration. Per common core, only performance of certain tasks were deemed as showing mastery of a subject. Needless to say, those tasks frustrated my son to tears. No matter how long you make him sit there to complete his assessment or task, you will not get what you are looking for. His teacher was confident that he knew the subject matter and could show his comprehension in other ways...other ways that were not specifically common core. Not everyone learns the same way. Nor, do they test the same way. We are being pushed into an assessment and 504 simply because of frustration levels. Counselors and teachers agreed that our son was not behind in learning, nor did he have a learning disability. In fact, he was above average in math...just couldn't write five sentences about HOW he arrived at something as easy as 10+9=19.However, because of his frustration and tears, CMS wants to label him?! Seems as though our schools will have to exponentially increase the number of children with 504's because of that. You have a lot of smart and eager students becoming frustrated and hating school now.
I don't just speak from my children's perspective. I volunteered at our local elementary school in Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades. I specifically helped out with math and can tell you that the way it is being taught is frustrating to kids and does not make sense. I am also a Girl Scout troop leader for my daughter (5th grade). We have a girl that was a straight A student getting a D in math. She is devastated. She knows how to do the work and gets the answers correct, but doesn't understand the convoluted way she has to explain it. Correct answer without the sentences and "busy" work earns a D. These families are single parent families, or families in which bot

My 3 children are currently in public school and are exposed every day to the complete and utter failure that is Common Core. My husband and I are considering taking them out and homeschooling them if NC doesn't remove this sorry excuse for a curriculum. NONE of it is developmentally appropriate and ALL of it is designed to take away parents' rights to be involved with their child's education. I consider it to be insidious indoctrination! Why can't we let children learn the way children naturally learn instead of trying to turn them into test-taking robots that completely disconnect from learning altogether? GET RID OF COMMON CORE NOW!
