NC standards have dropped since inception of common core. My son hasn't been challenged in 2 years and learning less.

Please listen to your Lt. Gov. Forest! He's done the research, he's not in this for the money & power grab, he's for our children & state!!!

I taught in NC public schools for 10 years and have homeschooled for 13. We are not a one- size fits all state. Don't let NC be under federal control.

Please Gov. McCrory as stated in petition, "please take a long hard look at this program and get North Carolina out of Common Core". We urge you to sign HB1061 as it stands, not as senate has changed. The children of North Carolina do not deserve this kind of abuse.

I've already written an open letter to you, Governor. I've called. I've emailed. Not one reply. Stop listening to your Common Core Education Adviser, sir. They are heavily invested in making sure Common Core happens and in the process, taking you down with them. http://ladyliberty1885.com/2014/01/17/open-letter-to-nc-gov-mccrory-on-common-core/

NC can develop more rigorous standards to achieve our educational goals, but we do NOT want or need the Federal gov't intrusion and control! Opt out now!

Our children are our future and deserve better than the harmful monstrosity called common core. The federal government has no place in the education of our children. Common core strips parental rights away. Our children are not common, not mediocre, and should not be subjected to these standards. Do not put governmental money above the children of NC. Please do the right thing by our children!

Our children deserve better. Thankfully, my son's grandmother can allow us to send him to private school so he will never have to deal with such low standards as set by Common Core. But what about other gifted kids who cannot attend schools like his? Also, what about children who are just a little below average but otherwise okay, and would fall through the common core cracks? We thought that our premature son would be one of those kids and there are many out there. Don't cater to the 40% of average kids. Don't halt the learning of the gifted and leave behind the others. Common Core is a terrible law. Please, Governor McCrory, allow North Carolina to opt-out of Common Core. Sincerely, Katherine W. "Katy" Benningfield Raleigh

Please show your support and get rid of common core. My sister-in-law is a teacher and is thinking about quitting. My two little girls who loved school hate going now. I urge you to opt out.

Please, do the right thing by our students, teachers, and our state. Get rid of Common Core! Get rid of the untested curriculum, the over testing of our children, the "one size fits all" mentality, and so much more! Do right by the folks that voted for you, thinking this administration will be SO much better than the last. We're depending on you!

The "standards" are developmentally inappropriate (especially for K-3), are not tested & validated, and are highly unlikely to produce any advantage to our children. The fact that Atkinson & Perdue signed NC up for this disaster, prior to actually reading what the standards were (since the standards weren't released until after they agreed to NC joining) going to be, should have been grounds for kicking them both out of office. Furthermore I cringe that there is a portion of our society who believe that children are like cookies. It is statistically impossible that every child will learn at the same pace & in the same manner/method. They aren't guinea pigs and this experiment on them is nothing short of abuse. It's time to demand better for our kids, the future leaders of our state and country. Gov. McCrory, this is your chance to be a leader on this important issue and to put NC children first.
