Included is the over assessment, I believe in formative assessment not summative. There is so much wrong with CommonCore compounded with the grading system, the group think teaching, the teacher involvement in actual teaching, and the list goes on.

Governor McCrory, It is imperative that you stop Common Core in NC. This program has way too many bad aspects to even begin listing. Eliminate it totally from North Carolina and restore local guidance and determination of what is taught to our children.

This is not the way to improve our children's intellectual aptitude; and worse, the importance of individualism and creativity is diminished.

I urge you to opt out of the Common Core state standards. North Carolina and the Nation deserves a better education system. Keep the control here in our state. Common Core has a progressive agenda. It is an assault on the family, home schools and private schools. The testing portion is flawed. Was it your intent to get the watered down version of the bill (SB-812) passed so you could then rebrand it? Is your motivation coming from the National Governors Association that owns Common Core?

Common Core is a disaster! I have talked with many parents and all are very upset that NC is promoting this horrible program. It is further "dumbing down of our society". Governor McCrory, I am a staunch supported of you but I cannot believe you support Common Core. Your re-election is certainly in jeopardy!

Why can't you people get it through your heads that we the people don't want this common core.Stop cramming this common core down the parent's through. You are putting our children in danger for greed for money. And you should know by now this is what Obama has planed to take control of our children. you are a bunch of crazy people to do this to us and our children. Bill Gates needs to keep his nose out of this and the government needs to stay out of our schools.

As a parent with 2 grade school kids, I am very concerned. The more research I do, the more I realize what a horrible idea Common Core is and the damage it will do. I am thrilled to see NC has decided to drop it. Please stand firm to that decision, as those who are pushing Common Core may be vigilant, but they are not doing so for the good of the children.

Common Core is a tool of liberal indoctrination. As a parent of a student, I have seen materials from her teachers which simply teach the progressive agenda. If any conservatives values were taught in public school, the mainstream media would cover it 24-7.

As a retired English teacher from MN after 26 years in the classroom, this is what I have been hearing. I'm no longer in the education loop so my accounts are anecdotal. * I spoke to the leader at my daughter’s charter school in Davidson, and she said she was most worried about the testing situations and teachers having to teach to those tests. She states that Common Core is the least of her worries at this point. * I am working on a church library committee with the librarian at Mooresville HS and she said the teachers weren't worried yet. It's been coming for so long that they haven't felt the changes, yet. She was focused on the morale of the staff, the expectations imposed on them, and lack of public support. * At a school conference I exchanged views with an educational state employee who said she was directly involved with the final wording and approval of Common Core for many months. She agreed she had little input but rather approving the entire process. As an African American woman she was impressed with the entire movement in education. * My cousin, Judy, is in a Chicago suburb, and is a special education teacher. I talked at length with her yesterday and her staff is completely overwhelmed with their situation: .....Their entire school has high proportion of non-speaking students who are required to take all the tests. .....The teachers are expected to handle the mounting requirements of paper work and often are at school until 8 or 9 daily. They are frustrated at the additional time expected to implement standards. Several are on anti-depressants and a few have quit. Judy claims that if salary is based on test scores, more will change professions. Good teachers will be lost. .....Only 4 out of 30 passed the math portion .....The school is in a complete lockdown and kids need a key to go to the bathroom. .....Students must explain strategies in math but not necessarily have the correct answer. One point is given for t

Common core is not what the people want. This is not a political issue, this is an education issue. Please do not be swayed by money; listen to the citizens you swore to represent and fight for. Thank you.

Common Core fails to meet content targets recommended by national and international advisors. Common Core excludes important aspects of Algebra 2 & Geometry content. Why should you care? Geometry teaches common sense such as how to go from 1 place to another--How much gas do you need and what is the shortest distance between 2 points. Public Schools (especially in our cities) have proven that gov't programs have dumbed American kids down so that 3rd world countries beat us in STEM. Why should a high school graduate need remedial English and math when they go to college? Answer-failed bloated government programs like Common Core. This must be swiftly rejected.
