NC can do better than Common Core. Stick to the basics. People in past generations knew more than students today because they learned the basics.

When is the last time politicians stepped foot in a classroom? Why are the methods of education that put you where you are today not good enough now?

Common Core is laced with Sharia doctrine besides confusing our students and parents. Parents are not able to help their children with their homework in most instances. Common Core creates a huge amount of excess work for Teachers and students.

Keep control of our schools out of federal hands. Local control doesn't mean low standards.NC children deserve better than common core

My 6th and 8th grader barely know their math and division tables. Thanks NC. (resident since 2010). Sorry I left IN for this education for my children.

Bill Gates, one of the largest contributors, avoids "Common Core" education for his children by sending them to Lakeside Prep. I believe he wants what is best for his children, and therefore has chosen not to subject them to Common Core. How appropriate!

Coming here from a state (TX) that did not accept the federal hand out I’m appalled at the standards these teachers are subjected to in this state. It is outrageous from the pay, to what they are “allowed” to teach. My twins just finished a mediocre third grade in the best rated county in the state….which is scary to me. They didn’t learn half of what my 6th grader learned in TX! Common core should be know as Poor core. Children are learning concepts without basic understanding of orders of operation or math facts. The state should be ashamed at what they have done, in mandating this curriculum. Time will tell, but with test scores being so skewed, we are only hurting our future. It’s time to dump it and let teachers teach what they went to school for! And provide fair pay. I am fortunate enough to provide my kids with a supplemental education through KUMON because I have zero faith in the common core. I wasn’t here to vote last time, but I will be this time. Shame on your NC for creating children who have very little self confidence in what they are doing and wanting to be the best they can be. DUMP POOR CORE!

Our politicians should be ASHAMED of the way education has been mishandled and allowed control to be taken from the teachers.

I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN GOV. MCCRORY'S ACCEPTANCE OF COMMON CORE . ( AND I VOTED FOR HIM). IF I HAD IT TO DO OVER I WOULD NOT!

Our daughter attends a New Hanover County middle school. She maintains a "A" average each year but each year when EOG time gets closer she has serious anxiety issues due to them. This has a effect on her is behavior, interaction with others and mental state of mind.

Common Core is a detriment to all students and teachers. It needs to go. Please do not hesitate to sign important reforms and/or replacements into law. I have seen first hand the harm that common core is inflicting on children. Please put control back into the hands of teachers and parents. Education should not be controlled by the federal government or corporations who make money off the tests. Government has no business collecting data about my children that will follow them throughout their lives. I implore you not to block the efforts being made to repeal and replace common core.

Can't the public schools at least teach the addition and time tables? What about cursive writing? Spelling? Vocabulary?

Keep the governments hands OFF of our children. My four home-schooled children, all over 21, have better communication skills, education, and are prepared to excel in life and career more than 95% of what the bureaucracy produces, PLUS they loved it enough that they will do the same for my grandchildren.

Common Core is the worst possible educational program we've ever seen. It stifles intelligent kids and frustrates all kids and teachers. Kathy Young, retired teacher and grandmother
